Hummingbird Hawk Moth

These were shot at 1/3200 sec and the wings are still a bit blurred.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Pingu, is that in mainland Europe?  The clubbed antennae suggest it may be a butterfly; there is the odd one that rests with its wings like a moth.  The colour suggests a tiger moth but its not one I've seen and the santennae look huge.

Thanks, pingu.  The feelers reminded me of the British burnet moth, but that's all!  What a wonderful creature.

Lots of nice pictures here, everyone. I hope transpondian moths are OK in this thread...

This one's a geometrid (inchworm) moth that deserves a better name than "Bent-lined Gray."

And here are some Io Moth caterpillars that my wife Robyn released in our back yard, a few nights after the release:

Think that maybe a winter moth.  Brian and Riggers will know!

Thanks for that misplaced endorsement Peter. Been looking, and thought it might be a Carmarthenshire moth, but the head's all wrong for that. I have a decent Moth book, but that's at home!

That may be a decaying ermine moth but I'm not sure about the tail bar.  Actually, I'm not sure about anything, anymore.
