An excellent opening episode, and Jodie is playing the character very well  :)
Quite a dark opening episode  :o
Can't wait to watch the rest of the series  :D

Doesn't give too much away....so don't need a spoiler tag

One review posited a possible change here as r=the new team is not from a SciFi background, but more human based drama. Is there a possibility that we will be seeing more episodes where the human story is more pronounced

I watched it last night. Quite enjoyed it. It was indeed a bit dark. It felt like a proper Doctor Who episode.

Some good lines -
"You're interfering in things you don't understand."
"Yeah, well, we all need a hobby."

The whole "Tim Shaw" business was amusing, and "Eat my salad, Halloween" made me chuckle.

Jodie Whittaker appears to be channelling David Tennant.

I do hope not. It's been too much emphasis on "human story" that has put me off the last few series. There was a bit of it in this episode but not at the expense of a proper plot, which was pleasing. I hope it continues that way.

RTD and Steven Moffat weren't from a sci-fi background either.

Tim Shaw was in the credits as well.  ;D

The only fault I had on first watch was that

. A minor quibble though, really enjoyed the episode as a whole. Got full approval of Daughter number two who was watching it with me.

I've been a bit Whod out over the last couple of years, so didn't watch much. But this was brilliant. Dark as hell - teeth face guy was creepy as fuck. The Doctor is excellent and I look forward to more. Bring it on...

But why would you carry a bike all the way up to the top of a moor if you want to learn to ride it?
Things like that always spoil it for me.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I didn't give that a moment's thought, tbh, but now you mention it, it does seem a bit odd.

Tonight's episode WOW !!!

Yes, very good - until it went all X Factor at the end.

I knew it was a good sign when I saw Malorie Blackman credited as a co-writer at the start.

The Dr eats Kim biscuits!* Obviously.

*custard creams are known as Kim biscuits in our house as they are the only thing we've found that Kim and I both eat, so we buy them if we are going to see her so we can share.

Look, we've been through this before:  Kim is Marcie Hatter, from Dark Season.  A Russell T Davies character who bears an uncanny resemblance to, but for copyright reasons is not in fact The Doctor.

I'm surprised social media hasn't been awash with people complaining that its pandering to political correctness gone mad to have a seasonal special episode broadcast on New year's Day rather than Christmas day. Im looking forward to it, at least it will make for a non Christmas story line!

apart from that I do really enjoy this series, so there

It has been, mostly by Gammons and people taking the piss out of them.  There is a strong suspicion that the overlap between people who complain about the Doctor having breasts and those whining that those rampaging Trots at the BBC are stoking up the "War on Christmas " by not showing the seasonal offering on December 25th is close to 100%.
