Title: Noisy Brompton drivetrain?
Post by: Jakob W on 22 May, 2019, 09:03:01 pm
I know they have a reputation for being noisy, but on my nice new 6-speed there seems to be a fair bit of drivetrain racket. I've not yet had a look on the stand, but by inspection the jockey wheels of the derailer and the chain tensioner do seem awfully close. OTOH the noise doesn't really abate much when I freewheel, so who knows...

Chain pins  hit the dork disk, when on the larger of the two sprockets.
The solution to this is to cut away most of the dork disk, leaving just the centre.
Brompton are aware of this issue.

Ta - will have a look when I get a chance to put the bike on the stand.

I found the stock bottom bracket also to be noisy, though didn't realise how much until I replaced it with a different one
