We had the up-and-over door on our rear garage (used for bikes and storage) replaced with a pair of wooden doors that open out (obviously you need the space for them to open out). Our workman had to make a frame on the grounds it seems our garage opening doesn't match any available door size. The result is pleasing enough. I can't remember the cost, about £250 for the doors and another couple of hundred for the fitting, frame, painting etc.
Our other garage has coated metal swing-out doors. They must date back to about 1988 when it was built and are still in good nick. The wooden ones need occasional painting but look, imo, nicer.
