Sevicing a post-2015 Gaggia Classic

Although my Gaggia appears to be working OK, it's now 5 years old and the gaskets, etc., won't be in tip-top condition.

I'm after a basic service for it, but I'm struggling to find someone either local or long distance that can do the job and quote a ball park figure. Well, a mate of a mate has quoted 115 Quid and he's a hobbyist/amateur who hasn't worked on post-2015 machines before, so I'm a little reluctant to hand it over to him, well meaning though he is.

Is there a coffee forum that you can recommend and/or a company that you have experience of?

talkcoffee.co.uk is a new forum that began life as an escape pod from coffeeforums.co.uk.

The coffeeforums one about 10 years ago was a hive of gaggia classic enthusiasts but they've mostly moved on to bigger and better machines. There may be some residual knowledge but I'm a bit reluctant to recommend it because it has been taken over by some real tools. I've not been on there for years.

talkcoffee will be friendlier, and the signal to noise ratio will be better. You may well luck out and find a Classic expert.

A friend of mine has used these people a while ago:   http://gaggiaservicespecialist.co.uk/gaggia-service-and-repairs.html    (his was a different make but they seem to handle lots of brands with a collection and delivery business model)

AFAIK he was happy - usual caveats!

I usually find, when these things go wrong, that a large mallet is quite useful, not to be confused with a large Mullet, that's a different kettle of fish.

Post-2015 Gaggia Classic are made in China, and definitely are not what they used to be, when they were properly made in Italy. Mine started leaking from everywhere after 4 years of normal use, and have now been binned, which is probably the most economically rational thing to do in the long run.

Yeah that is when gaggia domestic were bought by philips.

If it is working fine, leave it alone.  Also for descaling I'd recommend lemon or sour salt.  It is citric acid and really cheap from turkish shops a kilo was less than £2
