Anyone else here riding? Have I missed a specific thread?Recent email from Rich said there are still places; that rather surprised me, as I don't know of any other 1k+ events in the South, and everything convenient for Londoners sells out in minutes (e.g. the 400 later this month).

I've not gone hard on the marketing for this because I'm currently limiting the field to 60 riders and we already have 50.

Got as far as retrieving the official set of GPX which I’ll likely peruse this week, in combination with route sheet and rider notes.

I believe that entries were closed a couple of weeks ago. So I guess a few more spaces opened up.

Does anyone know the reasons why in England Cal events are currently limited to 300 but Perms up to 600 are allowed?

I think it was left showing 300 as there were no longer calendar events in England scheduled before 21 June anyway, so no update was needed before then.

I guess it will become more of an issue if the scheduled 21 June changes get deferred as there has been some suggestions of in the media.

Yep, I'm down for it. Let's hope the weather keeps up. Debating a 34t cog, or just staying with a 32t and sucking it up.

Ha ha. I’ll be on my recumbent and have no decision to make regards low gearing. If my legs fatigue I can’t compensate by standing up. Speaking of which need to check granny gear is working, as haven’t used it in a long time. Steepest round here is 17% and that’s fine on middle ring and far shorter rides.

Thanks for the tip, should hopefully still be open by the time I get there. I'm planning on mainly surviving on pasties in Cornwall. St Austell will be tricky, partly because of timings, but also as that's where my gran sourced all hers when she lived nearby - my Audax bike, Irene, was bought with my inheritance and named after her.

Now been through latest updates and looked at each section. As expected Dartmoor is where the climbing ratios go way beyond anything I can put together locally. Managed a 1.5% climb ratio central hill loop today. Confirmed granny gear working.

Now need to consider my pacing and what time I think I’ll reach the various points along the route.

To which I'd add a sharp little climb just before Truro, steep in Treen village (just before LE) and, on the way back, a tough steep pull up from Honiton.

I’m sure as it gets further into the ride, the definition of what’s steep will change, as the body fatigues.  😀

I've ridden 4 times to LE and back since 2018 (and some bits of the route more than that) and, believe it or not, done my best to minimise both climbing and steep climbs...please bear this in mind as you curse me while you are riding...it was not possible to find a flat route, sorry!

Devon and Cornwall are lumpy and, last time I looked, unless you convert your bike to a pedalo, there's no way of getting to Lands End without avoiding those counties.

Heads up the St Austell travellodge is now full in case you were considering booking it. Looks like there's still spaces in the Premier Inn.

The rates down there at this time of year are a far cry from the £30 I paid for one in Chesterfield back in October : )
