Watching the game.  Probably skip through a recording next time.  Perhaps the 2nd half will be more interesting.

I'm not sure it will.
It is simpler than it looks.

Association Football is best enjoyed by checking the results after the match.

Not so.  In my case (Newcastle supporter) it is better to imagine the result before the match, then forget there ever was a match.  The same will almost always be the case for England.

Or forget there’s a match at all, like England-Croatia earlier this week or Germany-England in 2001.  For the latter we wandered into a French campsite bar, mostly populated by deeply unhappy Germans, just as Michael Owen completed his hat-trick.

It was on in the background.

I only looked up when the commentator said "...and Grealish releases Sterling"

I would normally be a bit more interested in a major tournament but I’m all footballed out after the mad league season, so giving myself a break. And I don’t think I’ve been excited about watching the England team since 1998 anyway. So I went out for a bike ride yesterday evening and only got home in time to see the last 10 minutes of the game.

Looks like I made the right decision.

Just had a browse of the fixture list… Italy vs Wales tomorrow could be fun. And Portugal vs France could be worth watching on Wednesday.

I asked my son-in-law what he thought of yesterday's game. "Really exciting!" he replied.

He had spent the evening drinking beer with his dad whilst watching it. Dad has a strong Scots accent and both were supporting Scotland.

I saw the first half. Very entertaining game. Then had to go out so missed the second half unfortunately.

Portugal are a bunch of whining, play-acting pricks, especially Pepe, so I’m glad they lost. That Ronaldo is an exceptional talent though, has to be admitted.

Portugal-Germany was a very good game. France-Hungary was also good and, more surprisingly, so was Spain-Poland.

Funny that Hungary's goal was scored by a player from their third division.  They also have a Bristol City player(!). And Poland scored their first goal against Spain, in Spain, for 27 years. They looked lucky not to concede a few more in the second half but Spain also looked lucky to have scored at all.

Is it time for this old one again?

It was said by Polish TV commentators during the Portugal-Germany game that "The English referee thinks he's still in a Premier League match." Or it could have been France-Hungary, they both had English referees, but the inference was that he was allowing too much 'robust tackling'. Although they're all UEFA referees, national habits persist.

Great news.  And they have the best mascot - H Angus.  He waved to me and the son in law when we went to a home game.  (No monkey business involved).

Were the black armbands on the Italian team the "alternative to taking the knee" thing?
