Famous Five indeed,
5 recumbents met for a coastal ride yesterday. moi sur 'hilda, another Streetmachine, 2 grasshoppers, and an Optima Rider tadpole. Herne Bay was the start, but 2 were running late (due to forgetting cycling shoes and having to go back for them) so we decided to meet them at Reculver, The original (ambitious) plan was to head out cross country to St.Nicholas, then Ramsgate - Broadstairs-Margate and back to Herne Bay. But due to the lateness of the start, Nearly 1 pm, a cold NW headwind for the return, and a desire for chips and BEER, we opted for an out and back to That Margate, along the Viking Trail along the sea wall. Splendid fish and chips from 'Peters Fish Factory' ( Haddock and chips £4.95) and a pint of Oatmeal stout 4.1% at the Harbour Arms, micro pub, we felt relaxed, refreshed and decidedly chilly. So on with extra top and arm warmers, and battled our way back, getting to Herne Bay as it got dark, only to find over jealous toilet attendants had locked up 15 mins early. So 'Hunt The Loo' adventure time. Found one at 4.55, and the man was waiting till 5pm to lock up,luckily. A great day, with many remarks like.....'ahh!' and ''well done'' , but also proper keen interest, most folks have never seen one recumbent, but 5! must have looked odd. I did take a wee video, as did others, and will post up when done.
