There's a police station in Pig Lane, Harlow (or so I understand).

Computer Essex Police's webby SCIENCE says no.  Moreover, streetmap.co.uk reckons there isn't a Pig Lane in Harlow.

Come to that, Dubya does an excellent impression of a big piece of wood.  Does that count?

With apologies in advance for making light of an unfunny story, what about this one Sir Igor Judge?

Google suggests it was St Ives. But they renamed the section of Pig Lane with the Police Station on it to Broad Leas. They also built the driveway onto Norris Road.

There is (or at least was) a barrister practising in these parts called UR Sood.

OT - the person handling the small ads in the Law Society gazette is Stefan Butczuk. I imagine it isn't pronounced the way I think it is...

This isn't quite on topic, but today I saw a man with a sandwich board advertising Subway...which is, of course, a sandwich shop.  Felicitous or what?

Many yearsago, whilst employed by the DHSS  :-[, I had to correspond for several weeks with a firm of solicitors, somewhere, I think, in Birmingham, called Crooke, Swindell and Fraude.

There used to be a Major Major in the Army rowing club.

But ...

I think I once read that the framebuilder Major Nichols (his real name) did his war service in the navy because his name might have caused confusion if he'd been in the army.

A friend of mine has at least 2 Major Nicholls frames. In my ignorance I thought that he had kept his rank on when joining the Regiment of Quality Frame Builders. ;D

One of the two judges who have just refused Abu Hamza's appeal against extradition is called Mr. Igor Judge.

Although Adrian got there way ahead of me with his vastly superior posting skillz, I think it's worth including twice because it's that dam' good.

I know a man with the surname Bishop.  He is currently a Deacon.  Time will tell...

I know a Father Bishop.

Dad refers to a Bishop Priest.

My favourite is (was) the famous Philipino - Cardinal Sin

I'll forgive you if you don't believe me - but there used to be a desk sergeant at Newton Aycliffe police station called Sgt Bacon.

Ah botheration - I've been reminded that it was actually PC Bacon.

The Sergeant was named Trotter ;D

We have an excellent friend by the name of Bernie Bush, a fireman.  He is married to Ann Bush, tax inspector.

Let us not forget Mr Hackett, gynaecologist at the local hospital.

Private Eye used oft to cite a firm of lawyers named Sue, Grabbit and Runne.

We had a priest at school called Fr (or Doctor, as he was so learned) Hackett - specialist in Reformation history, advisor to Pinewood movies on the subject and also discovered that Cambridge was in fact an older university than Oxford.  Also a staunch Carlisle United supporter - for some reason.

Though I gather that in his spare time he was a keen amateur gynaecologist.
