There's a police station in Pig Lane, Harlow (or so I understand).

Computer Essex Police's webby SCIENCE says no.  Moreover, streetmap.co.uk reckons there isn't a Pig Lane in Harlow.

TFWKAML has worked with landscape gardeners yclept "Plant" and "Bush".

Come to that, Dubya does an excellent impression of a big piece of wood.  Does that count?

St Ives Cambridgeshire had exactly  this.

Pig lane led to an old farm and was built on over the years. Then they built the Police Station. The lower end of the road became "Broad Leas!

Norwich's public health officer in the early 70's (his name was on the door of the dustcarts ) was Mr Smellie.

An old comrade of mine was told he could apply for a commission in the Royal Engineers only if he changed his surname, which was "Trembles".

In the village where my dad grew up - Thornton in Fife - there was Mr Wood the joiner, and Mr Grub the grocer.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

A guy bought a local village shop and wondered why business plummeted after he had his name put over the window.  He was Mr I. Cheetham.  ::-)

I think this is a made-up one, but fun nonetheless:

The general stores in Rempstone (or was it Wymeswold?) has a sign above that reads "G. G. Granville's"

Perhaps it's the Bishop's Stortford one. I remember driving past it on a Harlow-bound commute.

Anyone see the "Who do you think you are?" episode last night with Rory Bremner.

The woman at the archive of births and deaths (who found out one of his relatives was one of the first in the UK to be cremated) was Di Stiff.
