Just bought a Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 lens. My first lens, other than the one which came with the camera.

Hopefully it will be here in time for Christmas.

Yesterday - a 6-year-old Canon Ixus 50 for just over a tenner.

I then downloaded the appropriate CHKD file and spent the rest of the day playing with timelapse and motion-detection scripts. Next purchase - a kite.

Wireless remote shutter, for 22 quid from Amazon. Delivered today. So far so good. First time I've used a wifi remote, much better than infra red versions I've used on other cameras, I can hold the button down halfway to pre-focus etc, and can operate the damn thing without having to be in line of sight of the front IR reciever.

That looks useful; I'd like to take photos of the birds on the bird feeder with the digicam, but without a long lens (just put the camera on a tripod and shoot from the house).  Problem is, digicam has no remote release socket so the only option is a mechanical cable release with one of those funky adaptor brackets to hold it over the shutter button (this works fine).  Air releases are slightly too short though; does anyone make an IR release with a mechanical actuator?

I've just bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280793288500&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:1123#ht_660wt_1396

Vivitar version of the "Bokina" - been trying to get it for a year or two. Hope it is OK.

EDIT: It's arrived. Excellent condition except for a little backlash in the focus ring (although that might have been there from new). Not allowed to play though until Christmas day :-(

Now that one is a registered X100 owner :smug: one gets nice messages from Fuji with offers and discounts. So today I ordered a refurbished F300EXR compact (one of those with a pixel-binning sensor). I can't claim that I really needed it, but at £80 :o it's a lorra lorra camrra for the money (and better value than an X10).

Oh, and a new pair of glasses this week. Do they count?

PS only a few snapshots so far, but I'm really impressed with the ability of the Fuji EXR sensor to cope with the dynamic range demands of difficult situations  :)

A remote release as the one with the manual plunger doesn't seem to work on my digital camera and the new bendy-leg tripod I got for christmas means I got a use of remote release again.
And a lens cap to replace the one that blew away over the holidays.

From t'Bay: a BLACK Olympus OM1n for the collection, which I really ought to declare complete now...

BLACK ones seem to be fairly scarce, and I got it for a bargain price

I didn't buy today but Mr Postman delivered the following today:

Neweer ND Fader Filter ND2 - ND400  77mm
52mm to 77mm step up ring
77mm lens cap!

I'm assuming that this £12  variable ND filter isn't going to be anywhere near as good a quality compared to a Lee Big Stopper, however it is a darned sight cheaper.

My plan is to use it with my Sigma 10-20mm lens, and the 52mm-72mm step up ring means I can also use it on my Pentax 18-55mm kit lens.

Just need some dry weather to try out milky water shots down the coast.....   :)

Another hefty wedge of cash dropped on photo gear today: a 46mm to 48mm step-up ring so that I can use my light pollution reduction filter (in the size to fit in the barrel of a 2" eyepiece or adaptor) on the front of my 1957 135mm Takumar lens for some wide angle astrophotography.

I can't even contemplate it. I'm not earning anything like enough monies from this photography lark yet.
Maybe by the end of the year if I can sustain my current marketing efforts!!

I have persuaded the lab to buy me a 10-24mm lens for use in photographing the outreach activities we get involved with. Looking forward to a shiny toy on my desk at some point.

If the 14-24 (fx version) is anything to go by, I'm more than inclined to agree

Good to get a recommendation. It is the Nikon one I specced so it is now making it's way through the purchasing system. A friend has the Tamron one and I liked that but it didn't focus very close. I haven't checked the Nikon one.  My 17-70 2.8-4.5 sigma zoom with macro is an absolute stunner, and a tank to boot.

The next step will be a D400 for video and photo but that may take a bit more blagging.

Lead time.. My current OOD is the D300s as that can drive my existing lenses[1], meter and do passable video but there is little point in getting one when there is a D400 around the corner..

Either would be a good step up from the D80.

[1] Yes the D7000 could do that but the D300s has more grunt for the 80-200/2.8 screw drive so will focus faster.
