Hello darkness, my old friend....

Which is the way that's clear...

Audax buddy song

When I wake up, well I know i'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next you
When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I drink tea, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who drinks tea next to you
And if I haver up, Yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would ride 100 miles
Then I would ride 100 more
Just to be the man who rode 200 miles
To kip down on your floor...

Oh well, I'm the type of guy who likes to ride aroun'
I ride from place to place, I ride from town to town
I just pedal right through 'em, 'cause to me they're all the same
The drunks a'gawping at me, they don't even know my name

They call me the randonneur
Yeah, the randonneur
I ride around, around, around

Oh well, Menai's on my left and Chepstow's on my right
And Kings is the place that I'll be in tonight
And when somebody asks, which ride I love the best?
I tell 'em about the one between Paris and Brest

'Cause I'm a randonneur
Yeah, a randonneur
I ride around, around, around

Oh well, I ride from town to town
I go through life without a care
And I'm as happy as a clown
I got my two legs of iron and I'm going nowhere

I'm the type of guy that likes to ride around
I'm never in one place, I ride from town to town
And when I find myself fallin' for some girl
I hop right onto that bike of mine and ride around the world

Yeah, I'm a randonneur
Oui, un randonneur
I ride around, around, around

Good evening!

I have been watching this thread for two years now and am simply astonished that some of the most obvious choices have never been named (please correct me if I am wrong about this):

  • It's raining again (Supertramp)
  • I'll find my way home (Jon&Vangelis)

During night rides I am also often reminded of New Order's "We all stand" (Three miles to go, three miles to go, at the end of the road, where all futures go...).

And then there is, of course, the ultimate in high quality lyrics:

"Die Straße ist ein graues Band -
  weiße Streifen, grüner Rand."

Ciao, Gernot

Nice one LWAB

Ernie Maresca wouold be touched, I'm sure

Perhaps the AGM this year could be a concert instead
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

On my way to the start of BCM,  I'm not alone by Calvin Harris came on. I think maybe he has ridden this, seen blinking tail lights in the distance on a lonely night crossing of Snowdonia, and tried sleeping in the common room at Kings whilst cold, wet and exhausted.

Can you stay up for the weekend
And blame God for looking too old
Can we find all that you stand for
Has been replaced with mountains of gold

You cannot dream yourself to notice
To feel pain and swallow fear
But can you stay up for the weekend
Till next year

God I can't do this any more
Though I'll be laid down on the floor
As many feet walk through the door
I'm not alone

If I see a light flashing
Could this mean that I'm coming home
If I see a man waving
Does this mean that I'm not alone

If I see a light flashing
Could this mean that I'm coming home
If I see a man waving
Does this mean that I'm not alone

I couldn't afford the lawsuit.  Luckily most of the hard work was done by Mr Midura, a New York randonneur, in the 1990s.

Whilst on many rides in the pricipality I've often listened to "no money down", rather fittingly by Dave Edmunds, and even more fittingly early on a Saturday morning passing through Rockfield.

A cyclists version would go rather like :-

....................................................................................

This will be removed in ten minutes, because (although 84), Chuck Berry would still start a lawsuit, and continue it through his estate.

EDIT 8:37 it's gone now

LWAB, that's wonderful!  (All of you, try and have a look at Dion on YouTube; he's still just as good now.)

In the same vein, I'd like to offer a pastiche of "That'll Be The Day"

Saddle-sore today, you're making me cry
Saddle sore today, will you say "goodbye"
You say you're gonna leave, you know it's a lie
Saddle sore will stay-ay-ay, till I die

I give you all my rubbin' and a
Shed-load of dubbin
Need load of Sudo just to get me through
But, just like Miss Maroney
My bum's extremely bony
And my shorts are wearing through

Saddle-sore today, you're making me cry
Saddle sore today, will you say "goodbye"
You say you're gonna leave, you know it's a lie
Saddle sore will stay-ay-ay, till I die

When cupid shot his dart
He got me in the part
That rhymes with broken hearts, so now I'm blue
The pain will never pass, 'cos
He got me in the Ass-os
Guess my cycling days are through

Saddle-sore today, you're making me cry
Saddle sore today, will you say "goodbye"
You say you're gonna leave, you know it's a lie
Saddle sore will stay-ay-ay, till I die

With apologies and many thanks to Buddy Holly and Jerry Allison for two minutes of pop perfection

King of the Mountain by Redline

King of the Mountain

Bullet fast, tear down Bray, The twisting serpent waits
Spittin? victory or cruel defeat, she deals the cards of fate

Rolling thunder, I hear them roar, Heroes never age,
Still they ride, Snow mountain high, spirits of the brave

King of the Mountain

Quarterbridge, all shiftin? gears, nail it on to Ballacraine
Screamin? thru? the mountain gate and climbing to the sky

Rolling thunder, I hear them roar, Heroes never age,
Still they ride, Snow mountain high, spirits of the brave

King of the Mountain

It's actually all abot the IOM TT but has some relevance to Audax
