I am a twarting idiot. A few weeks ago, I booked tickets to see the brilliant David O'Doherty tonight. Very much looking forward to it...

Of course, I realise this morning that this also happens to be the day of a thing at school about sixth form stuff. So not only am I not going to be able to see David O'Doherty, it's probably too late to get a refund on the tickets.

I suppose sixth form stuff is quite important though.

It reassures me that I've made the right executive decision to take the family to the comedy rather than sit in the school hall listening to the teachers droning on for hours.

There may be specific questions regarding courses/options that you want to ask. In which case go along. Otherwise why waste everyone elses time and your own.

You're overlooking the potential for droning teacher comedy, of course.

You know the sort of thing: "Universities now rate A-level results by points, so if you do 4 A-levels you'll have a better chance of getting in.", "General Studies is recognised as a proper subject by universities." "We have no bullying at $school.", etc

(An awful lot of my year group believed the first one, until it was too late.)

I don't have any recollection of a formal transition into sixth form - my A-level choices were pretty much the default options. They seem to make a much bigger deal of it these days. To what end, I don't know.

Btw, Kim, the comedy gig is at your old stamping ground. Any techies you want me to day hello to?
