MGM is looking possible for me

I just have to learn how to speak Spanish before next year.  And hope that global warming doesn't convert Spain into an extension of the Sahara Desert

It looks like MGM is going to be the popular one for next year. I won't be in it, my stomach shuts off above 35 degrees. I'll probably settle for the combination Maastricht 1000 (in non LEL years there are a lot more participants) and Merselo-Verona. I'll open a thread about Merselo-Verona when we have more information available.

I'm entering Borders of Belgium for next Sept.

I'd be tempted again, and I reckon I could get a decent VC167 posse - I'll let you know in case we can get a decent deal on the Hull ferry.

Yay!! See you in Oct, if not before!

Inland Spain in in August will be very similar to the desert you refer to.

Current temp in Madrid is easily in mid-30s C or 95F if your prefer, which is a tad hotter than I prefer.

I had a little correspondence with the Borders of Belgium FB site:

"Hello Dave. If all things go as planned, the BOB start will be on thursday 6 september 2018. Just keep an eye on this page and you'll find out at the end of this year. Kind Regards, Rohnny"

I was thinking that myself!  Nice reunion ride after the French trip.

Just as well my language skills extend to cover all areas covered on the ride!

Re MGM as you leave Madrid northwards temperatures cool fairly quicklybin the evening and early morning as a lot of the riding is at 2,400 feet altitudnin the meseta, not cold but a lot cooler. As you go over the PuertodelnPonton into Asturias I pretty much guaranteed youit will not be over 25/26 degrees and will be down to 14/15 at night.

HK rode the first MGM and reported 40 degrees most days, except when popping over the mountain range and in the rain near the coast. Conditions may have been exceptional, of course.

HK is exceptional, of course. (In all good ways; not nasty ones like 40 degrees.)

That Merselo - Verona route looks very good...

Just discoverd this - 600-700km road/gravel self-supported non-race in Italy: http://torino-nice.weebly.com/intro.html  Straight onto the shortlist for an adventure next year!

Still time for this year's event!
"
The 2nd Torino-Nice Rally begins on the 5th September 2017

*Please note, sign-ups close 23rd August
"
:)

This ride caught my attention last year, having followed TCR riders on some of the route. The whole spirit of it looks very TCR-meets-1weekAudax

I really don't have the right bike now, but that can be fixed. I will try to read about riders' experiences in  2017, but I don't think it's in my "likely" list for 2018; I rode the Col de Tende in May on 25mm tyres[well ... rode most of it ... ]. I need to take more baby-steps into this "gravel" business first #grannymatt

A relatively basic (and not gratuitously hilly) 1000 km with a central Scotland start / finish is a possibility next year.

Another vote from me:
That HBKH is due.

http://www.audaxclub-schleswig-holstein.de/node/739
mainly cos of this bar-chart. How many events have these??
http://www.audaxclub-schleswig-holstein.de/node/586
Over 1200km of flat - that's roughly a PBP!
the bar chart and, the altitude graph don't seem to match??

[The Not-in-Luxembourg 1000 looks nice too, but not if there's only going to be 9 riders! Maybe when it's had time to grow.]

Borders of Belgium was jolly nice - I'd recommend that to anyone with really fat tyres.

For info Belgian Andy I met on LEL told me Borders of Belge 2018 could be the last for a while as the org is thinking up something else. No confirmation. Could be rumour. Also I gather from Redfalo that the HBKB orgs are cool but don't do RM. Doesn't bother me but don't count on it for ACP awards .

... any others ?

I've entered The Emerald Isle - "an epic long-distance cycling event that encompasses the entire coast line of Ireland".

I think there will soon be cycle congestion along the coast of Ireland, with so many events.

Like the Ring of Kerry, they will need a 1-way system!

Is there any info in English about the Japanese 1200 anywhere?

I've got a pass for a week's cycling in Japan - I was planning on riding some of the the Japanese oddesy route but this could be a good alternative.

I'm told it starts 15 August Clover Hokkaido, contact Hitoshi Yoshida.
