Look what Ivor Wood has found:

Nearly all the original Herbs puppets !
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Isn't the whole thing a drugs allegory?

Missing Bayleaf the Gardener, Pashana Bedhi and Constable Knapweed...
VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

I can still remember the wee songs.
I'm bayleaf I'm the gardner
I work from early dawn
youll find me sweeping up the leaves
or tidying the lawn

I'm tarrogan the dragon
I better make it clear
that nothings sage when I'm around
things seem to disappear.

Ivor Wood died in 2004.

The rediscovery of the puppets was mentioned on Front Row this week - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09cvx83 (at 20:12 or so), where it also previews the Ivor Wood retrospective in the imminent Manchester Animation Festival http://www.manchesteranimationfestival.co.uk/events/ivor-wood-retrospective/

Slightly OT...

In the Southwest there was a Children's TV character called Gus Honeybun

On some nights there were as many dedications to Naval messes and ships as children

Judi Spiers also gave an "adult" interpretation.... which appealed to the matelots
