Sending money to Canada.
« on: 23 June, 2014, 07:10:10 pm »
I'm looking at sending some money to a friend in Canada to help her out with her tuition. I've had a look at doing it direct through my bank (Barclays) but they want £25 to do so.

What do we reckon (money needs to be there Thurs/Fri)? Moneygram via the Post Office? The fee's more like £9 which seems much more reasonable.

Moneygram or Western Union are fine as long as the sender and recipient know and trust  each other. Problems arise when Moneygram is used for buying something from a perfect stranger.

Thanks folks, will have a look at Transferwise.

Moneygram should be alright though as we are friends so no risk of shenanigans.

Paypal not an option as the other party has a bugbear about Paypal in general.

Do they have a bank account?  If i wanted to send money to Canada and the person had their own account it'd be £4 through HSBC.  A very quick service.

Have used Paypal for o'seas purchases and found their exchange rates pretty good.  I wonder what are people's hang ups about them?  Ok, so they want world domination but who doesn't these days?

Make it easy and cost effective to send money overseas. They can also receive FOREIN money and convert it into Sterling for you.
