Whamageddon 2020
« on: 25 November, 2020, 10:10:10 am »
You know the rules: you're out of the game if you hear Wham's 1984 festive lament "Last Christmas" at any time from the start of December until 2359 on Christmas Eve.  Cover versions are safe, and there are many (thankfully the Crazy Frog version is rarely played).

Top tips: don't listen to the radio, unless it's R3 or R4.  Do all your Christmas shopping on the Internet.  Have food delivered. Stick to Wetherspoons pubs, assuming they still eschew piped music.  Hide under the duvet until Christmas Day.

Post below when you're "out".

Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

I've not heard any festive music this year, and I can't see how I would. Not going to pubs or shopping centres. Not listening to music radio.
So unless Noddy comes and knocks on my door to tell me it's Christmas, I reckon I'm pretty safe.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Neither have I. I watch this drama unfold every year in a state of total bemusement.

Well I did, but I've already forgotten what it was.  No, don't remind me...

Survived an emergency visit to B&Q. They were playing some kind of Disney soundtrack.

2359.

I hope to win as I don’t think I’ll be alive then.

I'm out. It's all the plasterers' fault (they're working in another room with the radio on). :'(

Cripes, hadn't thought about that.  I went to Wickes yesterday in search of plywood, but luckily the general ambience of can't-be-arsedness about the place extended to a lack of music.

I'm hoping my plan of listening to only Scala and Classic FM, avoiding as many shops as possible and not having any Wham on my PC or other music playing devices will help in the quest to remain unwhamed.

Although a quick google suggests that first component of my risk reduction strategy might be faulty "What if WHAM wrote...."

Sainsbury's are playing festive music rather than the usual diet of crappy footballer-voiced adverts and Covid warnings.  So you could get Whammed in there.

B&Q have been playing good music in my local branch (Uttoxeter), whenever I've been in there recently.

Tesco, on the other hand...

My sister (a big Wickes fan) describes it as "the pikey's B&Q".

I'm out. I'm usually safe in shops because I play radio 4 extra or audible on my headphone and don't hear what they are playing, but today Rachel (my niephew) and I rode the tandem up to the co op and I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't bother with the headphones. I may have been out last friday, as I head the beginning chords, but then got distracted so I don't know if it was the original or not.
