I recently bought a Canon MF643Cdw multifunction colour laser printer to replace my aging Brother HL2070N (which is good, but had developed some spotting). It's quite a bit bigger (think of a 50cm side cube), but it does print/scan/copy and they are currently offering £70 cashback and a free three year warranty:

This brought the cost down to less than £200, which I thought was a pretty good price. They do seem to be short of stock at the moment, though.

I am looking for recommendations for a cheapish laser colour printer that can print double-sided. Scan can be single-sided. Not a lot of desk space available. We looked through the John Lewis options and most seem to fail one way or another. The associated printer specification techno-speak tends to induce paralysis on my part. Hopefully somebody will say “Just pick this!”

I'll say "JUST LOOK AT THE COST OF THE CARTRIDGES", and think about one that works on mono without the colour, too.

FWIW my recommendation earlier for https://www.printerland.co.uk/ holds good. After much deliberation I went for the cheap Xerox printer which has arrived and fits the bill perfectly. (B210 - only little oddity is that the paper tray pokes out the back, necessitating a little cover of some sort.)
