Six Nations 2023
« on: 04 February, 2023, 02:00:44 pm »
It’s time for those men who play with their funny shaped balls to get them out.

Predictions? Ireland for the grand slam and the rest picking up the crumbs I think. Hopefully England can improve on last years performance, but I can’t see them winning the tournament this year, Ireland are just too strong at the moment. Italy for the wooden spoon as usual.
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

Ireland have played quite well in the first half…
It is simpler than it looks.

They didn’t do that much better in then second half either.

I don’t think the result will be a surprise to many, but I suspect the shoreline might raise a few eyebrows.

This is a much more balance game, but it looks like the teams being able to capitalise on their opponents errors rather than the command that Ireland had of their match.

Well you can’t say they didn’t deserve it but it still sucks.

It was a much better game than the Ireland Wales game.

Well that's a bit rubbish.

Watching the highlights (don't know if they are the "official" highlights") the teams went in at half time with England 13-12 up and the next thing you know they are 20-12 up but the try & conversion have been edited out.

Edit: it says it's the Official Channel for the Six Nations.

Duhan van der Merwe "sensational" try.  I don't think that word means what they think it means.

Well that was a better match than I was expecting, though the result wasn’t.

I agree, fd3.  It was a very good try from a beautifully balanced player.  I think he genuinely beat two of the non-tacklers by pace and swerve, though the last one, no 6 or 8(?), didn't seem aware that you have to go round the legs to stop someone that big going that fast.  He may well have realised he could get badly hurt.

It was a very exciting game and a good win for South Africa 2nds.

Nice to see Scotland having some fun. My chum Harry in Kelso was chortling.

All in all, a very satisfactory weekend. :D :D :D

I felt that the Calcutta Cup game was exciting, but not a particularly high quality game.

Based on the first set of fixtures Id be surprised if either team ultimately manage more than 2 wins from their 5 games.

I think it's hard to predict.  Nobody has been impressive do far, except Ireland and Duhan van der Swerve - and he had some help!  Come on, Italy!

My sentiments for the next time around, though not with any great hope. ;D
