Cycle parking spaces in London

The Transport Committee has launched an investigation – led by Joanne McCartney AM - to identify ways of increasing the provision of good quality cycle parking.

Your say
The Committee is asking Londoners to complete a short survey about their views and experiences of cycle parking.

Further information
For more details, or to receive a large print version of the survey, please contact Ross Jardine, at ross.jardine@london.gov.uk or by post at:

The investigation will look at the role of all the organisations involved in providing cycle parking - including TfL, the boroughs, employers, train operating companies, Network Rail and retail centres - and make recommendations on improving the availability of good quality facilities.

The key areas the investigation will cover are:

  • To establish how good quality cycle parking provision in London can be further increased through the planning system and other policy interventions.
  • To identify what the potential roles are of the Mayor, Transport for London, London boroughs and others in increasing the provision of good quality cycle parking.
  • To identify what lessons can be learned from recent new developments in London and how high quality cycle parking provision in proposed developments in the capital can be maximised.

Thanks for this.  It's given me a chance to have my favourite cycle parking rant - i.e. pathetic provision at retail parks, where there is often parking for hundreds of cars and not a single decent bike rack, or maybe just the type where you're supposed to push your front wheel in and lock that - yeah right!

The irony is that these are supposedly purpose-built, modern facilities.  I usually end up locking my bike to the railings around the trolley park.

I won't leave my bike anywhere. The idea of having the saddle ripped off, the wheels stolen or just the bike tampered with means I really won't take the risk. I need a pub bike!

Done. Cheers.

I don't have a lock for any of my bikes. Its a slippery slope that starts with "I'll only be out of sight for 20 seconds" and ends with "damn... where's my bike?"

Without a lock, I don't let it out of my sight. This way, it NEVER gets stolen.

Got this from the CM list

Quote
"The House of Lords has once again ridden to the rescue of cyclists, this
time by rejecting a proposed law to enable council contractors in London
to remove without notice any bicycles chained to railings.

Railings are just about the only place to park a bike in many places in
the capital.
Only recently the Lords also rejected a bid by the Met Police to outlaw
the monthly Critical Mass ride..."
