But it's so awesome that a gay immigrant who followed a "peculiar" religion is such a fantastic part of British cultural history. I hope he knows and I hope he's proud. *gets a bit teary again*

On reflection, it was as if punk never happened though.

Well, that's John Lydon's fault for selling butter.

There was a nod of acknowledgement to Lydon et al in the OC - or at least there was at the dress rehearsal.

Didn't they have a mosh-pit of skinhead/punks on Pistorius-style bouncy metal leg-springs (in the OC)? That was a cool bit!

I didn't know George Michael was religious, and frankly it sounds improbable.  He did a good job for men's corsetry last night though.

Yeah, but the really cool stuff starts in a couple of weeks...

I really like Channel 4's trailer for that. And also the slogan they're using on Tube ads: 'Thanks for the warmup'.

I still think it should be on BBC though, but I guess they weren't interested - do OBC provide images for the paralympics I wonder, or is it down to the broadcaster?

Channel 4 seem to have put quite a bit of effort into paralympic sport over the last few years, with coverage fo a few different events. I think that's probably why they are the broadcaster for the games. I don't think that any commercial broadcaster would be able to match the amount of content that the BBC broadcast on air and online though.

The bloke who handed the flowers to the Marathon winners was incredible. I thought that he'd lost the coin toss and really wanted to hand out the medals.

I'm  extremely jealous of all you lucky people who were able to watch it. Did anyone on here,by chance, record the whole ceremony and would be kind enough to email it to me?
Thank you and hoping.

The Commonwealth Games manages to include disabled athletes as full members of their national teams. Why can't the Olympics?

The South Africans did.

The South Africans did.

The South African Paralympians were not officially counted as part of their Olympic team, with the exception of Pistorious who is a member of both squads - but there are still two different squads.  The medals that paralympians might win will not be added to the official medal tallies for their national Olympic teams, whereas they count in the Commonwealth Games.

Can you point me to a suitable Linux site that works? I haven't used a torrent for years but have bitorrent on my computer re-installed.

The twitterati have probably already seen this one, but doing the rounds during the closing ceremony:

Danny Boyle is currently going through his CV bolding and underlining the word “opening”.

That boris is a bit of a mover isnt he. He's outdancing the PM just like I remember Morris Junioor did to me at the school disco, and he got to snog the French exchange girl I was trying to impress.
Id say hes played a blinder with his antics and is a cert for PM now.

Works fine on this Ubuntu box. Click the link which opens a browser window then go and download the torrent file, which automagically fires up Transmission (torrent client)
