Kudos to Cameron Norris. First ever “pro” match on clay and he comes fron 2 sets down to beat his opponent ranked some 90-odd places above him. Excellent

Edit: having never played more that 3 sets before  ;D

Some Scottish lad is playing Queens tomorrow, ranked 156th. Wonder if he’s any good.

Turns out he is, just out of practice. He did so well, it was great.

Great result for Katie Boulter yesterday; showed real resilience when things started going awry at the end of the second set.

I read a great story at the weekend about grunting players:

apparently at a youth tournament, the spectators started shrieking during the points. Despite the players protesting to the umpire, the fans persisted; the players then stopped their noise, and everyone carried on harmoniously  ;D

Clive James had a theory that Jimmy Connors changed the timing of his grunt from "as the ball is hit" to "start of the stroke" one year, which proved very effective as confused opponents would try to hit the grunt instead of the ball.
