Good CD ripper for Linux
« on: 10 February, 2011, 02:53:20 pm »
Does anyone know of a good CD ripper for Linux. Something as good as EAC on windows ? I have tried Rubby Ripper which is very good but it takes a couple of hours per CD which will make ripping my collection to FLAC an unrealistically long job.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

k3b generally does the job for me.
Presumably there'll be a plug-in to allow it to handle FLAC and the like.

I always used the command line cdda2wav. You can pipe the output straight into the FLAC tool. Rips at whatever speed the drive is (so a 52x drive rips a typical audio CD in about a minute). FLAC compression adds a bit of time to that depending on the speed (and number) of your CPU(s).

I think I used a shell script, FLAC tools and metaflac when I did my CD collection a few years back.

I've just been using soundjuicer to rip some of our CDs to flac in Ubuntu. It works OK but is a bit more basic than EAC.

The last time I ripped any of my CDs (which was a couple of years ago) I just used Grip, nice simple interface and plenty of options.

I used to use "abcde"
The time it takes depends on the speed of the CD reader and the CPU
