Mary Poppins Returns.

A good bit of family fun, with a flow very similar to the original. I did feel the songs weren’t as memorable, but I’m a bit older than I was when I saw that one.
It is simpler than it looks.

As promised, I did all four Die Hards (we don't count number 5 as canon), and utterly splendid they were. I don't care what they say about 4.0, I love it when Hollywood does computers.

Yeahbut Hollywood should stick to doing computers in films with a) A forgettable cast of young hacker stereotypes  or  b) Harrison Ford  and leave Bruce Willis to get on with the important business of picking off bad guys while wearing a vest.

Yeahbut, Bruce doesn't do computers, he's like your dad but better, he has to get the stereotypical hacker type to press the buttons. Hackers, of course, are all blokes who have low blood sugar and never go outside.

It was very educational. I learned the viruses can make the C4 components of your computer blow up. This is the only way, and the bad guys wait outside to send the virus and check on the boomage. Also, you need a giant secret datacentre to store all the financial data in the USA, though it apparently will also fit on a 2007-era flash drive.

If you'd paid attention to the right parts, you'd know how to handle a gun, a dirtwad, and most any tricky situation where innocent folks are in peril.

Watch them again.

And this is where Arnie trumps Bruce...

Bandersnatch.  I'd give it about two and a half out of five.

Ready Player One

Very enjoyable, made me smile lots. I can't claim to have spotted all of the pop culture references but I did especially like the fact that the spell for the magic orb thing is the charm of making from Excalibur (one of my all-time favourite films, which I have probably seen more times than any other film).

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Brilliant - in a very Coens-y kind of way. A real homage to classic westerns. Very funny.

A Million Ways To Die In The West.

I enjoyed it although a lot of the jokes were obvious. Fun overall. I do love Charlize Theron which helped.

A few bits did have me belly laughing.

And fwiw Seth MacFarlane is better looking than I expected.

Good, but I think I would have been more impressed had I watched it in a cinema rather than on a laptop.

That one had my orbital mechanics funny-bone complaining. Point & shoot changes of orbit just don't work.

I've learned to mostly ignore bad science - it makes life easier.

Historical inaccuracies, on the other hand ...

Bad science I can ignore to a point, e.g. sound travelling in a vacuum.  It's a bit like background music. Some stuff, though...

I don’t know about science but when it comes to history, I do know that Queen Anne didn’t keep 17 pet rabbits. However, The Favourite is a most splendid film regardless.

I'm an hour into it. The last 30 minutes have been boring beyond belief and I'm at the point of giving up. (armless man, and gold-panner) Not sure what it is Im missing  ???

I loved the armless man story. Unremitting bleakness and desperate tedium leading to an absurd ending. It's positively Beckettian.

Ah now, that would take fortitude beyond the limits of my breadbasket.  I had to look for the Dramamine halfway through the trailer.

I found the first two stories a bit shallow (though I loved the language), but it got better and better after that. The armless man was delightful, although I couldn't help thinking as he rode away that, shot through the liver as he was, he wasn't long for this world.
