Essex pub NIGHT RIDE
« on: 11 April, 2008, 04:00:43 pm »
Anyone fancy riding out to an Essex pub on the evening of Friday 2nd May?

Myself and Wowbagger have hatched the plan.  A pub in the Danbury area might work, The Hurdle Makers Arms in Woodham Mortimer is one option.  Perhaps we aim to meet up at about 2100hrs.

Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

You're too kind.  But I shall decline.  Not quite up to a few hundred kilometers in one go just at the moment.

Time and circumstance, no offence to Essex or Essex dwellers. I agree it has some lovely countryside but my job and living in Brentwood drove me away.

Enjoy your ride, it sounds like a super idea.

Used to Live in Colchester and moved back Notrh in '98. Would be nice to get back to Essex again but I have legal matters the day before and I am likely to be very tied with paperwork for a week or two after that!
Have a good one anyway!

This is the pub I had in mind:

http://www.hurdlemakersarms.co.uk/pub_restaurant_essex/content/view/7/10/

It offers the intrepid rider coming in from the north the chance to have a crack at the only decent hill in our area - North Hill through Little Baddow.  It has recently been re-surfaced - just for you.

Hmm.

45 miles each way...  Meet at 9, carbo-load for an hour or so, leave at 10.30, home by 1.30...

I'll see what the weather forecast is like and how works going, but I'm a possible for this one.  OD, where will you be leaving from?  I could meet you on the way!

What's the Red Cow, Chrisall, like Mike? Is it worth a 120 mile round trip?

I wouldnt like to say if it's the nicest pub within 60 miles of you, but it's a very nice pub!

We're a bit spoiled for nice pubs round here - Arkesden, Quendon, Great Chishill, Elmdon, Reed all have nice pubs but the Red Cow changed hands about 10 months ago and the new management are fantastic - the food and beer are both very good. We rarely go anywhere else now.

You're going to have to stop burning them down though.
