Personally I found his presenting style insufferable. He made the interviewing error No 1 of thinking more about his next question than listening to the current answer.
Was rumoured to be the inspiration for Alan Partridge. Wouldn't surprise me. Always seemed to find his own comments more amusing than they inevitably were.

The BBC have many more sports journalists who can easily take his place, so don't worry*.
*(The same interviewing style of his that you don't like may well be replicated).
