Depending on time, weather and energy, I might potter out to Dunnett Head and capture the spirit of the Baton and take it to JoG. Watch this space.

If you're doing that, it's only appropriate that you fashion a re-incarnated baton out of whatever materials happen to be to hand.  Maybe you could knit one out of midges or something?

(I once retrieved a hammer from a couple of metres down a cavity wall, but that was a bit more magnetic than the baton is...)

I am not going to get the time to do this. My ferry doesn't get into Scrabster unit 12.30 and it's a 50 mile round trip. Why is everywhere in Scotland so far from everywhere else?

The handover from SAS:

At Dunnet Head before being hidden in a discrete hole in the wall:

Do you have a piccie of the 'hole' or can you tell us where it is in relation to the last image.

I do not have a picture of the hole - its 50+ metres from the 1st picture in the wall going up the hill.

Dunnet Head is one of those places that I have yet to visit.

I'm going to have to devise a way of getting JenM's photographic memory image of LeBaton's last resting place out of her cranium so that a rescue bid might be attempted.

Anybody want to sell a set of thumbscrews?

Relaxing after a veggie chilli in the Foresters Arms on Saturday, I had an idea: an enterprising YACF'er could post the baton as a geocache.
That way we get a whole load more people looking for it - and then we can ask them where they found it  :)

Hmm.

Had a poke around, but no immediate joy.

There's the path/gate to the lighthouse, a run of wall, an old gate, another run, another gate...

Between (a) lhg/og#1, (b) og#1/og#2, or (c) beyond og#2?

If it's not pissing down (still) tomorrow might go back for another look, but really need clue...otherwise so close, but so far, mission FAIL  :(
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Could've taken one of the (loose) stones out & hid behind.
Could've used one of the existing (BIG) holes for sideways hide.
Could've made a burial cairn, from collapsed content.

Could've...Could've...Could've...

Had 2nd & 3rd poke in the rain, but despite scope couldn't see anything in likely looking holes; might now be under a bit that's futher collapsed.

Unless Jen wants another trip, for accurate location, or you manage to build a slice'n'dice memory extractor, 'fraid it's Requiescat in Wall.

So near, after so much time & effort, yet so far :(

I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Full marks for effort, sir. It has been there about a year (I just had a facebook message commemorating a year since my visit to Thurso).

8 years, 8 months, 14 days, 6 hours, 33 minutes and 13 seconds - can we Guinness that?

Bloody hell, iddu, that's commitment. I thought the baton was gone forever.

The greatest comeback since Lazarus rose from the dead? ;D

Ta DA - more HAPPY DANCE ;D

My, that's all changed since I was last there.

Now, M. LeBaton - what do you want to do next?  We'll go on a 200 tomorrow, just to stretch the legs, like...

So am I to understand that the baton has been retrieved from it’s hiding place in the wall?

Well thank'ee kindly sir

As you know

I like bikes and travel, and I'm a floozy for new places

so your suggestion is perfect. If we make it to a hostelry I would feel privileged to buy you a drink. If I had money. Or pockets. Or hands, come to that. But the thought is there.
Stick it to me, yeah!
