Night time
« on: 13 January, 2009, 05:54:27 am »
Looked out of my window the other night and saw the most incredible moon I've ever seen. By the time I got around to taking the picture, it wasn't as good, but it's still quite impressive:

Ta muchly!

At first I couldn't work out what it was as it looked 2 or 3 times the size of a normal moon and it was a reddy orange. I thought it might be a low balloon or some such thing.

The real pain was trying to hold the camera steady enough for the right exposure when it was 2 or 3°C!

It's an optical illusion that the moon looks bigger the lower it is in the sky.

Top pic. December and January fool moons in Denmark have always been massive and very colourful. Looks like you can just reach out and touch it.

Not entirely an illusion in this instance, perhaps, as the Moon has just passed perigee and the recent full moon was the biggest it'll be in 2009.  Roughly 15% larger in area than an average full moon.
