Team Sky names its first six riders | Latest News | Cycling Weekly (http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/396335/team-sky-names-its-first-six-riders.html)
Nothing to confirm/deny the Wiggo rumours.

And the next 10 here: Sky Announces Ten More Riders | Cyclingnews.com (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sky-announces-ten-more-riders)
Flecha, Boasson Hagen, Lövkvist, Gerrans, Arvesen, Possoni, Henderson, Augustyn, Carlström, Nordhaug
(pretty much as per pre announcement leaks)
-
Woo-hoo! Some of my favourite riders are in the Sky team, viz:
Lövkvist
Arvesen
Flecha (hero!)
Augustyn (bless 'im)
Thomas
This is going to be a very serious team.
All we need now is Wiggo...
-
Lots of great signings there... but Boasson Hagen? Blimey! That's a really serious statement of intent.

-
That's looking quite good now. If they have Wiggins, I guess they would be a good team to support him.
Maybe Sky are serious.
-
They look serious, some of the best domestic and continental riders...
Well done to them for snagging Russ Downing and Geriant Thomas. I had a feeling RD was heading that way after the Tour of Ireland, when the rumours started and he would neither confirm or deny them :)
-
I'm surprised we've not heard any news of who RadioShack are signing yet - as far as I can see, the team consists of Armstrong, Leipheimer, Steegmans and... er, no one else so far.
Has Lance been trumped by the Brits? Or have I missed a news story or two?

Surely Armstrong will want that really good rider that won the TdF? You know, the Spanish one. Who's better than him... ;)

Sastre ?????

While getting "Wonderful" Boasson-Hagen is a bit of a coup, Team Sky are still lacking a realistic GC contender for the grand tours (British or otherwise), and a decent sprinter. At the moment anyway.
-
and a decent sprinter. At the moment anyway.
Hmmm considers starting Boonen rumour ,after he was only recreational. ;)
-
It's shaping up very nicely. Will be interesting to see if Nibali is also confirmed after his good TdF this year.
I really hope the kit is nice and made by someone decent. It would be such a shame if our flagship team were so badly kitted out that we didn't want to own the jersey and show some support!

The Sky +HD track kit is OK IMHO. Hope the road kit is similar without too many logos.

I wouldn't want to ride in 35° heat and blazing sun wearing something as black as that.
Cervelo decided to switch to white for the Tour because of that.

They said that, and it gained them a lot of publicity....
A cycling teams business is selling exposure for it's sponsors..

Johan posted the team members yesterday.

Good to see Russell Downing has got as ride with them

And it looks as if Bradley will be joining them..
Sky Expected To Announce Wiggins Signing Today | Cyclingnews.com (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sky-expected-to-announce-wiggins-signing-today?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=news_headlines)
-
Well I read elsewhere yesterday that he wasn't, as Garmin was not releasing him. I need to check where though...
-
Tis official. Whoever would have thought that one was coming?
-
Blimey ! That's a bit of a coup.
-
I suppose Wiggo knows Brailsford and thinks it will work better for him
Sky doesn't have enough fire power to give Wiggo a real shot at winning the TdF this year but that was true of Garmin too. Maybe Garmin wanted Van Summeren or Van Velde to be their GC hopefuls ahead of Wiggo.
Maybe Wiggo thinks he will place higher with Sky. It might help his domestic profile too. Wiggo /Cav /Hoy are famous enough to be looking to do interesting stuff after they "retire".
A 4 year deal with Sky would take him to age 33, it's the peak of his career. He has to be in a position to really make his mark and being top dog at Sky would suit that.

;D ;D ;D

It's great to have Bradley on board.
I'm still waiting to see what the kit is going to be like. Anyone know when it's due to be unveiled? I guess it can't be too far away as they're riding the Tour Down Under in early January.

Wiggo is a Web 2.0 National Treasure. Some tweets from this week:
# Wouldn't piss on these wankers if they were on fire! about 3 hours ago from mobile web
# I've had some Horrible messages from some brainless wankers who feel my move to sky has somehow affected there own lives! about 3 hours ago from mobile web
# Talking's been banned in our house, we all communicate through the world of Twitter 5:54 PM Dec 8th from mobile web
# Why don't we save the Whales instead of the pursuit. Please sign up!

What aload of pompous drivel! I expected better!

I love the idea of a a world-beating Sky Team with Brad, Cav & Geraint, run by Dave from Deiniolen... but I hate evil right-wing megalomaniacs.
???
-
Now it's actually happened, I'm slightly disappointed that Brad left Garmin. There's a grain of truth in what Millar says - Sky are nouveau riche upstarts and Brailsford is very much an outsider to the world of road cycling.
But on the other hand... so what! It will be great to see a British team with a genuinely world class British rider leading it in the Tour de France.
And maybe an outsider coming in to shake things up is what cycling needs if it is going to shed the reputation of the peloton being a rolling pharmacy.

-
Brailsfords only part of the team. I think his talent is being able to recruit world class experts to join the team, who, for the Sky Team will have experience with roadies.
-
Paul Sherwen, interviewed for pezcyclingnews.com before the announcement, suggests
'It might be a good thing, in fact, not to have Brad on board straight away. It could put too much pressure onto year one as part of their development because Wiggins would want to emulate his performance at the Tour this year.
I’m not sure what the contractural relationship is with Garmin … it might be an advantage to run out his contract this year and move to Sky next year when they’ve got their feet firmly on the ground. '
Seems a fair point.
