Recommend me a smart phone
« on: 29 August, 2018, 08:30:56 pm »
Looking for a replacement for my Moto E2.  Usual source for cheap phones is HUKD but nothing is coming up and don't fancy another lenovo phone as the customer service is aweful.

So what does the hive mind think?

I and my daughter both had one of these: https://wileyfox.com/collections/swift and it was very good. I'd still have it were it a bit smaller. I sold mine to Sam/Valiant. Ask him if it's any good...

Nokia 6.1. It is AndroidOne, so no bloatware and should get some updates.

I had a Nokia 5 and it was slooooowwwww. Very unresponsive phone.
Prior to that had an iPhone which was good but had issues reconnecting to Bluetooth in my car so sold it to somebody on here.
Got a oneplus 5t now which I like.

Think about what hardware you want to use it with, eg earphones, your car, and research how well it plays ball with it.
Also think what features you want, eg you need NFC if you want to use Android (/Apple) pay.
If you're not sure buy second hand off eBay till you're sure it's what you want cos there's only so much internet research can tell you, that's what I do with cameras.

Very happy with my Google free Wiley Fox Swift, which is running Lineage OS.

I got a refurbished Oneplus 3T for £250 which has been great so far.

It's got room for two sims so I can use my work sim for personal data which is very handy to say the least. And it saves you carrying around two phones.

Another killer feature is that it charges in about 30 mins.

Terrific VFM.

And like the 5T it's got NFC so you can even leave your cards at home.
