Bristol-Swindon this Saturday (20/10/18)

Only if dry (trains are cheap on this route so we'll book the night before).  Weather looks very good at the moment.  Bristol-Bath psyclepath, grab something to eat in Bath then strike NE for Malmesbury and Swindon.  No rough stuff and there's only one real hill, out of Batheaston.  Just Sam, me and probably Cudzo atm.  Low-key falling leaves ride.

Have you got a route or will there be an impromptu element? I'm quite happy either way but just thinking some might prefer a gpx, particularly if less familiar with the area. Tickets seem to cost £15.90 regardless of when you book, the only difficulty is working out which ones take which type of bikes...

I'll knock one up.  Maybe Chippers, Dauntsey, Wootton Bastard, Hook and Swindon?  It's not a bad route, the bit I know from Chippers anyway.

How about this (from the end of the railway path to Swindon)?  Ironically, the OpenCycle mapping doesn't understand cycle routes so I haven't plotted the Bristol-Bath bit (impossible to get lost) or the last bit from Freshbrook into Swindon through the Great Western country park*.  About 50 miles all-in.

That's just coming up with a blank map for me, but your sequence sounds fine to me.

It works on my phone (and I didn't create it on here).  Shame...I was hoping you had a GPS!

A420 is a bit pants. I'd carry on north to Grittleton and across from there.

I remember 'Nam town centre not being too bad.  The A4 and A350 are best avoided.

When & where then.  Temple Meads?  Time??

That's correct.  We're on the 0831 out of Swindon because Sam wants to go to Bikedock.  I'm trying to choose between the Moulton and the Brompton...Brompton 4lb lighter* and a better climber but awful on rough roads.

21lb without pedals...it's a rather pimped Brompton

OK, will try the 08:31, but may get bounced onto later, but shouldn't be an issue.

It'll be the Moulton, as I appear to have used my last spare 16" tube.  I could probably bodge a 20" tube into a Brompton wheel...but no.

I'll meet you somewhere between Batheaston and the A420 about 12.30-ish.  Roger's got my number in case you get lost. :P  Will be on fixed.

I'll call you from Bath.  Iddu has a better route to the Seagrys than going through 'Nam.

Ride report in the usual board.  Thanks to everyone for coming and especially to iddu for Bath-Swindon navigation.  Chris N pointed out that the last time he saw me was when I was mopping tables at Alston control for LEL 2009  :o

Was a good ride out.  Shame not to ride with you guys for longer, but I had to get home to cook tea.  Thanks to Roger for organising, and iddu for navigating.  Was good to meet Sam and (finally) Cudzo.

Took a shiny new Class 800 to Chippenham, which magically turned into an HST on arrival at Swindon, then meandered home from there along a very indirect route.
