Click Stand or Upstand?

I reckon one of these supports could be quite useful

Or, are there other alternatives I don't know about?

On the whole, the Click Stand is likely to get my money as it appears more versatile and likely to be better with panniers.

I would think something similar could be fabricated from a couple of aluminium tent poles and a trip to a plumbing shop for a plastic pipe clip.

Indeed.  It's not rocket engineering.

Don't forget the parking brake though (can just be a bit of elastic or velcro round the lever) - that's vital for stability.

i think fishermen use something similar to support their fishing rods and i recall thinking they were pretty cheap.
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

I met a cycletourist back in the 80's who was using a Baden-Powell style wooden thumbstick. Quite useful sometimes too when off-roading, he said.  :P

I ordered a clickstand.  Website very easy to use.  Remarkaby quickly, I got a message saying it was posted, then, yesterday, a small, light package arrived.  Opened it up, fitted the ferrule, and opened it up.  Smooth as owt.  Slotted it under my Peregrine.  Works perfectly.  Very nice.

I find a clickstand very handy. Perfect for touring, as a tarp pole or with a guyline to hang your washing up.

When touring, I use a tree, a fence, a wall or the ground. Works great every time!  :P

I'm sure I added my overall happiness with the clickstand somewhere. I added some elastic wrapped and knotted around the rather empty and airy centre of my tubus airy rack where it now it sits happily and securely.

I have used a Leki walking pole successfully when cycle camping. Also very useful if going for a hilly walk! Another use I found for it, when riding that really nasty road from Inverness to Ullapool, was to place it so that it stuck out about 12" or more from my luggage, with a fluorescent band round it, to try to persuade drivers to give me more space. It worked in the sense that I am still here to tell the tale.
