I have been casting clouts left, right and centre!

We cast ours and regretted it yesterday.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

No snowdrops in flower in Priory Park yet. Last year, it was November 17th. Previous year, October 28th. Lots of shoots above ground level, but no flowers yet.

I wonder what it is that brings them on? October this year was very warm, but November has been a lot colder than in recent years.

Are those early Spring Biscuits I see Wowwers? Or plain broken cheese biscuits, to be precise?
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

First lambs of the season last weekend.  We normally don't see them here until the week between Xmas and New Year.

For a couple of years, I have posted a picture here of daffodils on Dec 25th at our old place.  Due to the strangely warm spring like non-winter we're currently experiencing, I thought they might be even earlier this year.
Just been to see.  Nope. Only just about showing above ground.
How odd.

Doubtful.  We have a small tree in our garden that is currently displaying pink flowers.  I don't know what it is called.  It has thin redish branches.

I thought the same about the snowdrops.

I first noticed this patch in 2004 and they were in flower in early December. I thought that was remarkably early, but in more recent years I have kept a note of the earliest I have seen. The photos are on this thread. The earliest snowdrop flower I had photographed was in late October.

Autumn has been pretty warm, especially September and October. I thought that November was unusually cold, but I discovered that I have recorded a colder one since putting the weather station on the roof in 2010 (6 years ago tomorrow to be precise).

A few signs here now after the second really mild day, up to 10c and light breeze and sunny intervals. A coupel of snowdrop flower buds showing white, blackbird and dunnock singing this morning. A green woodpecker yaffling and a great spotted woodpecker drumming. Spring isn`t far away (well a couple months probably)

I think it's a mussel shell. They migrated very early this year.

Well. It made me feel spring-like.

As I type this, a magpie is building a nest in a bare tree across the road.

There's also daffs spearing through the ground around the tree roots.

The magpies nest building are going to be shot.

Every single day from 5.00-6.00am they start rattling off like machine guns. This lasts for up to 2 hours >:(

There could be 6+ of them doing it when they have chicks. The noisy feckers are close to my bedroom window!!!!!!!!!!

Also on the shooting list:  That bird that makes a noise like a smoke alarm with a low battery.  I assume it's a relative of the one that hides in hedgerows and makes a noise like a rubbing disc brake, but likes to get up a lot earlier in the morning.

an old gardener told me that when the Forsythia start flowering, spring begins, and not before that. He also said that when forsythia start flowering is the best time that you prune rose bushes ... he said that climbing roses are pruned in October

On the 13th of feb, I heard & saw my first Skylark of the season, hovering over a bit of rough ground at the back of one of the housing estates I deliver to!
