Good Night Wee Man
« on: 01 September, 2008, 10:55:24 am »
We had to have Bambi put to sleep this morning.

He recovered really well a couple of months ago when he suddenly got dehydrated and had to spend a night with the vet. But last week he took another sudden downturn and it looked like his kidneys were shutting down. To top it all he now had cancer in the bowel, probably caused by years of cystitis, although it was the kidney problem that the vet thought would be the biggest problem.

He had spent 4 nights on a drip at the vet, got a tiny bit rehydrated, but it was clear his kidneys weren't working. We were really getting him home so he was somewhere comfortable. Over the weekend he stopped eating and drinking, and was getting thinner and thinner. He was hardly moving, and just simply wasn't his normal self (of the two he was always the hyperactive, noisy and friendly one).

I made the call this morning that we knew was coming but really didn't want to make - I'd woken up feeling sick at the thought.

It was really quick and quiet in the end, and we were given some time with him. He was only really a bundle of noisy fur that wanted fed every so often and covered the bed in hair, but it was a really hard morning, and we've both been in floods of tears.

But trying to look at the happy side, he was a rescue cat who was given a loving home for the last 7 years of his life, and had a garden (and further) to explore for the first time in his life for the last year and a bit.

Good Night Wee Man.

You do get really attached to them don't you.

It'll be hard for a while, but just remember the good tyimes and remember all his funny wee antics.

I'm very sorry to hear that. That's the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
You made him a happy wee cat though, and that's all that matters.
Big hugs to you & Mel.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Thanks folks.

It's going to be really odd tonight with only one cat there.
