As is becoming more frequent these days work is conspiring against a prompt departure for me again this evening, please don't wait for me if I'm not not there at 7:30.

Oh oh better study the route again as you're the only one with it for tonight.....!

It didn't look like a route that needed too much Garmin power.

Without your firm guiding hand DL will have the Witham peloton in a chain gang doing hill repeats on Market Hill.

DL will be wearing that violin at this rate  ;)

A rather enjoyable trundle in the sun to Maldon last night, the Witham peloton consisted of myself, Tippers, Andy and newcomer Giles (not on the forum) upon sweeping up Ted the other side of Tiptree we took some slight back road deviations to Huggy's published route and very nice they were too!

Upon arriving at The Queens Head we were greeted by Trainmanbri and Steve Everitt who were already sinking their pints of Topsail and shortly after Tomsk arrived. We quickly got round to consuming some Topsail too!  Following on from this were pints of Hopshead as we watched the moon rise (ahhhhh  )

It was decided that as we were on the doorstep it would be rude not to visit the Blue Boar so off we all headed with Bri and Steve opting to head straight home as Bri had an early start this morning, a decent pint of Nelsons Blood sunk at The Blue Boar and it was home time.

Newcomer Giles did well considering it was his first outing in clips (no comedy GoPro moments  :o )and he seemed to enjoy himself enough to declare he will be joining us again next week

A newbie via Witham Cycling now indoctrinated into the world of MEMWNS  :o

By the way, did you talk to Giles about pickled eggs?  ;D

We went gently as it was his first time out with us and I thought maybe Ted could enlighten him on the pickled egg initiation seeing as he enjoys them so much  ;)

I can picture the scene ...

[ted takes Gavin to one side and places a fatherly arm around his shoulder]

"Gavin, there's some stuff I need to tell you about, nothing to worry about really but it's best you know ..."

Ted has a friend called Gavin that he's going to bring along too?? Cool

Good to hear Giles enjoyed himself we'll just need to keep him at arm's distance from OD who likes making up names for people, doesn't he Jeremy Simon, Whatshisface...

Disappointed I couldn't join you last night looked a perfect evening to be awheel!

The Folk Music at the Blue Boar was marvellous as well, another live band for MEMWNS! I suspect we narrowly missed some Morris Dancing as well.....phew

I was keeping an eye on the Hustler last night to ensure there was no hill climb wagering japery O:-)

Any pickled egg related matters should be referred to the "pickled custodian" OD.

DL is threatening to unleash the Focus next week so you might want to see how aero and light you can make your audax frames...

I wondered who this Gavin was.......  ;D

Forgot to mention the folk music serenading us at the Blue Boar last night, Andy was in his element!!

Ted is keen to average 21mph I suggested if I bring the lean machine along this can be accomplished.....   ::-)

In further news the Hustler seems to have got us an invite for drinks on board Ted's boat when we visit 'The Yacht Club' in Mersea

Please note that we are having the guest Jacuzzi on the aft deck refurbished at the moment so that won't be available.

Getting back on topic  :P

The Blue Boar was definitely the pick of the pubs last night but it was pleasant to sit by the mud at the Hythe.

Are we continuing with making the most of the light nights/going as far east of Dunmow as possible or is there a consensus towards the more miles less beer approach ?

We still have Rowhedge, YC, Tollesbury, Heybridge Basin to do by the seaside.
