^ Well done Jibers - I'm happy to share.

BY THE WAY...I've started a dedicated ACME Arrow Thread over in 'Audax', to free up the Miscellany...

Folks, I got a message from one of the Thanet Road Club riders (not sure if he has found his way here) who rode the Stanstead Express (which I believe was his first Audax) and he's sliding on that slippery Audax slope. Anyway, he says
Quote
Hi nik I'm thinking of setting up an audax type ride down here in the summer from a real ale brewery near me there's plenty of room for parking and camping there wondered if you and the acme lads would be interested I will do it through thanet road club it won't be through AUK be good to hear your thoughts and any ideas mate cheers
You will notice the piece I have highlighted which makes it all very interesting. No dates yet but will keep you all updated. Let me know if it is of potential interest to you all. Even if it is not AUK I guess we can do some kind of DIY activity.

Sound interesting!  Do we have to send a diplomatic envoy to Thanet to open relationships?

Heads-up for Essex cyclists:-

A letter just popped through my door from Highways England, announcing a consultation about plans to widen the A12 between Boreham interchange and Marks Tey.

Online information is here: http://roads.highways.gov.uk/projects/a12-chelmsford-to-a120-widening-scheme/

There are four options in the presentation, but it seems that none of them makes any provision for cyclists.  In fact, it's worse than that. Under "rights of way", they state "Widening the A12 could remove the existing pedestrian footpath adjacent to the road.  Alternative facilities would be investigated.".  My reading of that is that the existing shared use facilities, Hatfield Peverel to Witham and Witham to Marks Tey would be removed.  I have no confidence that "alternative facilites" would really be investigated any further than pointing folks at NCN1.

There are a number of exhibitions you can attend to look at the plans. I am going to the one at Rivenhall on the 6th of Feb.

Not much to report but that's not to say yesterday evening wasn't very enjoyable.

The Witham peloton waited 15 minutes for me to get back from my work related travels.  Just before Maldon me, BFC, huggy and Andy C33333333333333333333333333333333 scooped up Oaky.  At the pub we found jibers finishing his tea.

I ordered mine and shortly after 'fandango turned up for a pint on his way to nursing the needy sick.  Conversation ebbed and flowed whilst tasty beer was consumed.

Me, huggy and Andy C3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 left at about 10:30, the others are probably still there.

After a day in the car and stuffy meeting rooms the ride, exercise, companionship and beer was most welcome

I'm sure I could force myself to hang around for a couple of ales.

Where is mid-Essex?
What is an Essex energy drink?
In what ritual must I partake if I want to join ACME?
Why does the ACME peloton visit the western half of mid-Essex so infrequently?

Likewise.  Although I reserve the right to drink substances other than ale if the fancy takes me.  Moving on ...

I'm helping bobb with the ACME website, in particular the copy.  We are going to have a FAQs section so please could you come up with some FAQs you think visitors to the site will want to see answered.

The FAQs which have occurred to me so far (in no particular order) are:

What is an audax?
What sort of bike do I need?
Where is mid-Essex?
What the fook is ACME?
Can I buy ACME gear?
When and where are ACME events?
What is the MEMWNS?

Some of the questions above are already answered on the site (which I have had a butchers at) so rather than repeat info the answer will simply be to go to a certain section or perhaps the question doesn't need asking at all.

So, come on then, lets have some suggestions

How do I join
How do I register my change of allegiance with AUK
What can I buy you to drink Ted
How do I leave
Is it true you bivvy in the woods with trowels
I don't have formal wear, would cross-dressing be a suitable alternative

What's MEMWNS?

MEMWNS is the Mid-Essex Mid-week Nocturnal Series (with link to thread). We like to think of MEMWNS as the social arm of ACME, although given that it pre-dates ACME by some years, maybe it's mroe accurate to say that ACME is the Audax arm of MEMWNS.
