Shimano 600 - Triple Compatible?

On my DynaTech I have some 600 STis. 8 spd of indeterminate age.

Does anyone know if new rubber hoods are available and has anyone ever made the front work across a triple?

Help please. I really don't want to have to go buy Sora shifters.

Doubt it would work, it's missing a tooth on the pawl engagement to make a triple work.

Go bar-end shifter instead?

Compact double even?
