Title: No longer problems with BikeHike!
Post by: Russell on 17 October, 2009, 05:05:56 pm
I am having problems downloading tacks from BikeHike - they are being declared illegal by two different programs.  Simon is looking into it - can someone else check to see if it just me?

Thanks

Title edited to show that there were no problems with Bikehike!

Got an example link? The one I just tried worked...

I've downloading mine as 'gpx track'.

Yes I dowloaded a gpx track as well.  It's happening on the work PC as well as the laptop at home.  Firefox and Maxthon.

But I don't think it is route dependant.

Works fine for me, resulting GPX file loads fine into GPS Trackmaker (Free version).

Strangely, without doing anything different, it now works.  Tomorrow's track downloaded into the GPS.

Happy days!

Simon has found the problem to have been an ampersand in the download file name and these characters are not allowed in the gpx file spec.

So finger trouble on my part, Bikehike is as good as it always has been.  Simon is going to put in a filter to stop this happening again.

an ampersand in the download file name and these characters are not allowed in the gpx file spec.

Likewise accented characters, anywhere in the gpx text.
This makes gpx embedded with 'driving directions' from Google Maps for example, for anywhere in France, especially troublesome.  You usually have to search/replace é, è, and î at the very least.

The problem is that bikehike is generating badly-formed xml.  Ampersands are represented in xml documents as &
It's nothing to do with the gpx schema
