Yeah, Mrs MSeries and I were waiting for the first drugs scandal, it happens, it's part of life for those guys.

waddya mean first? Shumacher tested positive for Amphetamines at his drink drive offence. It shouldn't be part of life (as an aside it was pointed out that Operation Peurto fingered a few tennis players but how much of that did we hear last week?)

Recreational drug use is outside the remit of the sporting bodies.

Damn, we shoulda had a sweepstake!

Schumies was something of nothing. Beltrans is the Real Thing. I quite like him as a rider too.

I wonder if he felt, at his age, that he had nothing to lose and everything to gain  ???

A bloody shame, this could have been a fantastic drug free Tour. It could still come out well if there aren't too many other revelations.

Well, that's only the first rider to withdraw.  We can still have a sweepstake for the first team... :-\

Amphetamines are used as a performance enhancer though - in the early days of doping, they were the drug of choice.

If it had been cannabis, it would have been more obviously recreational.

As it was out of season it may have been recreational. On the other hand it could have been weight management related.

But Boonen's was recreational, too!

Apparently, when they retested some of the samples from the 1999 tour, his showed that he was on EPO then.

recreational or not; since when was use of these drugs legal in any of the countries concerned? sorry but if they are going to clean up they have to be harsh on any such abuse in the year before the Tour IMO.

showed is a somewhat strong word. Indicative or suggestive would be better.
