Can I get stills from a .MOV?
« on: 16 December, 2009, 12:04:30 pm »
Accidentally took a little film with my camera when I meant to take a still picture. Does anyone know if I can get a still from it, & if so, how?

Yes - you can. How easy it will be depends on what OS and what video applications you have.
It is simpler than it looks.

Just do a screen dump at the appropriate position. No special s/w needed ;).

If you're using Windows and don't want the hassle of stripping away all of the screenshot outside of your image it's worth trying FRAPS. It's shareware but works OK for stills capture even without registering.  Can also be used to capture movies but watermarks the images unless registered. I've used it quite a bit to capture stills from dvds.
What's this bottom line for anyway?

The camera may well be able to produce a still from the movie, check the manual.
