ACME PBP Qualifiers, Part One: Churchend, Dunmow Start.

11th March - The Horsepower 200km

The Early Season Classic! Breakfast at the start, then out to Lavenham for elevenses,  on A/B roads (in case of a sub-zero morning) - a wide choice of cafes here. Snetterton Race Circuit for lunch (2023 track day dates and restaurant opening tbc) and Newmarket, home of horse racing for another free control. (Apple crumble and custard at the Wetherspoons is the ACME tradition!) Soup and rolls at the finish.

20th May - Fenland Friends 600km (The Flatlands reversed)

In tandem with our sister event, Yorkshire Via Essex 600km, (starting from Sleaford, Lincolnshire) - say hi to our Yellowbelly friends - you'll pass them twice, as they reverse our route. Breakfast at the start, commercial controls, make your own sleeping arrangements. Plenty of 24-hour garages and McDonalds for the night sections. Pub finish from 09:00 Sunday morning.

24th June - The Flatlands 600km

The original Fenland route. Last chance to qualify!

(Kingdom of the East Saxons 400km on 22nd July is not a PBP qualifier!)

(Huggy and Adamski may be along in a bit with the Manningtree events.)

My only event for 2023 is a new one.

600km : 17/18th June from Stirling 0600 Start - The Abbey Craig.

A loop of 367km up to Stonehaven and back on Saturday [via Comrie ] then a trip round the Kingdom of Fife on the Sunday.

Literally thousands of info controls and at least one secret control too.  Bring a sharp pencil  :P

Possibility of the hall at Madderty  325km being used as an extra feed stop if there's enough entries.

No limit on field, entries welcome right up until 48hrs before.

There’s a provided sleep stop in Stirling?

No, but it has numerous hotels.  Prem Inn, Travelodge etc as well as a Youth Hostel, B&Bs and campsites.  I believe this one is closest -> https://witchescraig.co.uk/
Cheers, I'll give it a look. Just moved to Edinburgh, might struggle to make the start time though.

I'm running a few qualifiers.

Yorkshire Grit 200 from Northallerton on Saturday 28th January. Dead flat route, gritted roads, bikers' cafe, scout hut finish with loads of food on the go, possibly a wooden spoon prize if anyone asks as that may become a tradition after last year, I'm sure I could find a suitable piece of tat memorabilia. Sadly clashes with TerryFromBury's excellent 200 from Cheadle which I rode this year and would otherwise recommend (https://audax.uk/event-details/10141-newport). Route's over here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38654991, and the Scout & Guide Centre is over the road from the station, so very convenient indeed for public transport.

Great North Road 400 from Darlo on Saturday 29th April 2023. The one with all the bridges, including the Humber Bridge, and a cracking view of where the cooling towers used to be at Ferrybridge. Village hall control at Skelton for second breakfast, campervan control out in the Dales, possibly more support en route if the entries justify it. Optional village hall accommodation the night before (bring your own bedding). Route is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39373747, and I already seem to be getting backfill from LWL. Darlo is pretty easy to get to by train.

Slaithwaite 600 from Darlo on Saturday 20th May 2023. The one with the difficult pronunciations. A pronunciation guide is provided to all entrants. The route is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35944746, and on day one it mostly (mostly) traces the edges of the Dales, Lakes and Bowland. Overnight stop at Milnsbridge (that's 'uddersfield to you) with a bag drop, and a very flat Sunday to the finish. Again, the option of sleeping in the hall on Friday night, plus a very-nearly-civilised 7 am start time.

And not my event, but Mr Roberts has resurrected the classic Wiggy 300 that Keith Benton used to run from Wigginton, also running from the Scout & Guide Centre in Northallerton, which is right opposite the train station: https://audax.uk/event-details/10079-northallerton_300_

(Huggy and Adamski may be along in a bit with the Manningtree events.)

ACME PBP Qualifiers, Part Two: Manningtree train station, start.

1st April - Essex and Suffolk Borders 200km
Heads westward from Manningtree to a checkpoint at Great Chishill windmill where there'll be food and then a short leg to the westernmost control in Buntingford. The route returns back to Manningtree via beautiful Lavenham.

There's also a X rated option to start in Buntingford and riding in the opposite direct in order to wave at everyone twice.

Huggy's offering the following

6th May - Green and Yellow Fields 300km
Depart Manningtree at 00:01 on Saturday for an overnight ride up to the north Norfolk coast via Barton Mills. Hopefully with a stunning sunrise. Return via Wymondham and Needham Market for a beer at the train station.

10th June - Asparagus and Strawberries 400km
9am start to ride up to Wells Next the Sea on the north Norfolk coast via Eye, Halesworth and the Norfolk Broads. The return is via a great nighttime bash through Thetford Forest to Barton Mills and on to Saffron Walden. The final section back to Manningtree has some choppy hills.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

A couple more East-Central Scotland events

200km - Tour of the Ochils - 4th March
300km - Roamin in the Gloamin - 15th April

The only 400km in Scotland next year is in the far north, Hellfire Corner, so I can see the Darleaux and Tyneside ones being very popular.

Eyeing up the Falkland 200 here.

I said much the same about Scottish riders coming south for their 400 qualifiers, though I suspect Andy B will be busier than I, since Lucy has a 300 the same day as my 400.

And hey ACB, that's a thoughtful thing to do in offering midweek qualifiers for shiftworkers, hope you get enough entries.

I get blank cards so actual rider numbers are inconsequential as I'll just use the cards on another event. I was shocked last time when a few UK riders had to go abroad as the qualifying date windows were different.

Enjoy a cuppa n' cake in any number of cafes around the market square before choosing your own route to Muker and then climb over Birkdale Common into Cumbria. An incursion into Cumbria introduces riders to the mighty Great Dun Fell; the highest paved road accessible by bicycle in the UK! The return leg includes a visit to the Tan Hill Inn - Britain's highest pub and the climbs of Buttertubs Pass and Newby Head!

Overall, a wonderful day's cycling with beautiful scenery, covering some wild and exposed moorland (roads). Event generally receives a high approval rating from previous entrants.

The northern Pennines follow, where a food/sleep station has been arranged at 392 km. After clearing the Langwathby control, riders will be into the Lake District; climbing over some legendary Lakeland passes including: Whinlatter; Hardknott and Wrynose. Ride the Lancashire Lights 200 - Sunday 29 October 2023

Hi All
Will a qualifying event only count if it's date is after my possible registration date?

Re: PBP 2023 qualifying events

If the event is listed as a PBP (BRM) it will count, it doesn’t have to be after you register for PBP. For instance, you could ride your 200 BRM qualifier this month.
