Super Mario's view of modern cyclists
« on: 11 December, 2010, 11:23:45 am »
"in my day etc etc..." - link

Easily dismissed, but I liked it when there were characters like Cipollini around.

“I read an interview with Umberto Veronesi, a scientist, a reputed oncologist and Minister for Health,” Cipollini continued. “In five hundred years or more, human beings might have both sets of genitalia, male and female. I don’t want this evolution to have started already in cycling…"

Yeah but Cippollini is also rather thick, so he probably misunderstood it

If you want evidence of how thick he is, here he is unwittingly appearing in an Italian pranking tv show. The man in the car is telling him his house has just been broken into and his world championship bike stolen by men driving a motorhome....

My Italian friends think he's a dick.

My Italian friends think he's a dick.

I can't see anything wrong with his reaction there, he's had to ride them down, so he's bound to have been high on adrenalin.
Sprinting has to be about aggression surely, the interesting bit is how much of that aggression came naturally, and how much from steroids. That clip also tells you a bit about gender roles in Italy, the outfit that the girl is wearing at the beginning is a bit of a clue. Virility is expressed differently in other cultures, English behaviour values concealment of true feelings.

I suspect Cipo rather likes Cavendish.

Cipo looks like Clint Eastwood and he called Schleck a pussy.  There's life in the old dog yet.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Even though he passed him in a TT only using one leg to pedal!

The one you wear when you go through to the Withdrawing Room with the other gentlemen for a smoke.
It is simpler than it looks.

Is this a very long build up to a weak joke?
