Good luck for everyone signing up for this.

I stopped drinking[1] some years back so I'm in it by default.

[1] That makes it sound as if I was an alkie. I wasn't.

Bit like me really, I would have the very occasional glass of port, but I no longer actually enjoy the taste of alcohol!
Good luck to all!

Maybe a low-cal hot choc with decaf coffee is too strong for you?!  ;) ;D

Just got home from a social gathering where I drank...

A glass of Schloer. O:-)

Ok, so we saw in the New Year with a champagne-glass of dry cider, so I have technically consumed alcohol in 2014, but not even enough to make me feel relaxed, never mind tipsy.

I & Mrs Marco have decided to join in. It has absolutely nothing to do with a fancy dress party on the 31st December and a distinctly slow day yesterday...

There was a piece on PM earlier in the week about a brief trial done by New Scientist journos, after they had found a dearth of papers to review on the subject of abstinence; those who stopped had a 15% reduction in fat on the liver (a precursor to disease, they said), the average weight loss was 1.5kg, they slept better and they felt more alert & able to concentrate.

My boozahol consumption is sporadic enough that I have quite a few dry months in a typical year without particularly noticing... but I know that January has a couple of gigs and stuff where I'd probably normally have a couple or three, so my 'in' for this month can be a bit less theoretical :)

There's a piece on that here.

I didn't intend to do this but so far I haven't had alcohol this year.

I'll see how it goes.

Go on then!  After the 1st tho!

I'm good so far, last glass of wine was emptied by about 23.30 on the 1st!
I'm gonna limp to the pub and drink 'til the rest of me is as numb as my arse.

First Friday evening for many a year without a tipple at home. Felt a bit odd cooking at 6:30 without a few sips of something, but we will get used to that.

Fallen at the first hurdle.

Had the customary Friday lunchtime pint with my colleagues yesterday (which is a social occasion, so it's allowed, within reason) but then couldn't resist sampling my homebrew stout when I got home in the evening, which definitely isn't allowed.

OK, I shall aim to get through the rest of the weekend without succumbing.

I'll join in too. Had a glass of champagne that I emptied 23.59 the 31/12-2013.
If all goes well I'll try for several months, but let's see how it goes.

So far so good, but it's only the 4th, so I'm not hanging any bunting out just yet.

No physical withdrawal symptoms as yet, so I'm guessing I won't have any. I'm finding the 6pm-8pm window the "worst" and even that isn't that bad.

Tonight, I'm experimenting with booze free, sugar-free, aspartame-free drinks. No, not water. This:

Juice of a Lime
Teaspoon of Stevia sweetener
Pint of fizzy mineral water

Quite nice. Needs gin, but tough titty  :hand:.

I'm also taking some liver-friendly supplements:

Marmite. Heavy boozing mullers your Vitamin Bs, and it takes a while to restore.
Milk Thistle.
1000mg Vitamin C.

There were three bottles of Broadside on the dresser making lewd and suggestive gestures at me all the while I was preparing tonight's dinner,  but I played hard to get.

Good work. On the Ride of Shame back to Oxford today (DNF'd an audax), the Siren call of the pubbe was harsh. The warm orangey glow of wood-fires, the pumps all lined up on the bar, waiting for their shapely form to be pulled in frothy fountain.

AWAY YOU TEMPTRESSES!

Stop it, stop it, stop it!

A couple of days ago I removed a just-opened bottle of 'Loadline' Chardonnay / Pinot Grigio from the fridge, inserted a Vacu-vin stopper and put it in a corner of the kitchen, there to warm up and become much less tempting...   O:-)

A walk with the family on the South Downs finishing as it got dark, a stop at the pub to warm up and revive next to the fire, and  a pint of OJ and lemonade.

The temptation was immense but SWMBO is also going dry and neither of us wants to be the first to cave in.

(Next weeks wednesday night pompey pub ride will be the next hurdle)

Well - now's a good time to be on antibiotics, I s'pose  ::-).

My previous self-medication post-dentist would have been at least one bottle of red wine. I'm a wuss when it comes to the dentist. I managed. Fboab helped.

Still dry.

O, well done! We're avoiding pubs for the time being as we think it would just be too strong a temptation :(

Don't like OJ & lemonade, too sweet, I try and go for a pint of lime and soda, with a couple of plobs of ice, thing is this can range from 50p pint to £2.50. I always ask now, as rather than pay £2.50 I'd rather have a beer  ::-) defeats the object i know.

Last night, after 2particularly hectic days was the first time I missed not having a cider to hand but elderflower cordial and sparkling water was a surprisingly good alternative with last night's curry treat!
