JT's pic of Cancellara followed by Schleck followed by Evans followed by Hushovd followed by (can't see but presumably) Thomas illustrates one of the things that's great about the Tour de France (and bike racing in general) - in what other sport can you get up so close to see the world's top pros in action?

Rallying?

Yeah you can get close but the drivers are in a car with a helmet on.

At bike races you can see in the riders faces and eyes what they're feeling.

Rallying?

Sometimes the racers get http://www.youtube.com/v/WpX3Fp0h4fA&rel=1 to the crowd in rallying. :-\

Did anyone else get the significance of a flag with a picture of Homer Simpson's religious neighbour on the cobbled stage?

I saw this, sniggered, then forgot about it until now! I assumed it was a joke, seeing as Flandrians are renowned both for their performance in, and vociferous support for, the Spring Classics.

I thought that was going to be the Joachim Santos crash in Portugal in 1986 and am rather glad it wasn't...

Indeedy doody! It was an alternative to the ubiquitous black lion on a yellow background. Much like the way pubs are called the 'Seven Stars' where 'The Plough' is too common.

Brilliant! I saw Ligget's face on a pole, but not Flanders - gawd bless the fans.

Just the first one I found on Youtube - there are plenty to choose from.

I looked up the Joachim Santos crash. Nasty. :(

I admit I do kind of get the appeal of rallying but things like that are enough to put me off wanting to go and watch it live.

Yesterdays scenery was some of the best I've seen so far this year ;D
Surely the French Tourist Board only have to show re-runs of the tour stages to attract people to France.

The best views were of the Massif de Devoluy and from here.

I'd like the poll option of "no, it's not on tv, and barely reported at all, where I am." At least, it probably is on one of FiL's 400+ satellite channels but I have not found which one and when. But I am hoping to watch the Tour of Poland in the first week of August!

If you have a good internet server you may be able to follow it here

They show all stages LIVE via various links, also show other cycling events !

Watch out there is a nasty little root kit virus that enters via flash videos that buggers your sound up (amongst other things). It keeps turning it down without it looking like its turned down. Try muting then un-muting it a few times or resetting the mixer levels. It's called the Black Internet virus for some reason.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Thanks, but I think what has actually happened is that I've accidentally deleted the audio software. :-[ :(

I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here.

It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I'm even more convinced that Cavendish is working pro-Pettachi and anti-Hushovd - no other real reason to go for the sprint or to ride it how he did.

(PS- I'm totally in favour of this move; gain friends and show Hushovd who's boss after last year's protest)

Great pics! It's a gory one this year..!
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

I thought Cav was just making a point about his supposed over-reliance on Renshaw. That was an awesome display of power. The stage result was of secondary importance.

Hushovd was miles behind Petacchi anyway.

Cav said that 'Vino's ride was incredible. The power he took off with on the climb was incredible"
I hope not too incredible??????

Cav said he also misses Renshaw in the bedroom and then smiled and laughed "That doesn't sound right, does it?" All the reporters laughed too.

Errr .... I appreciate your comments have all been carefully phrased, but surely we can discuss actual race events in the other thread?!? TdF 2010 - Comments and possible spoilers

[I've already had yesterday's stage ruined by a tweet - so that's something else I have to turn off for 4 hours every night!]

Oh well, it was a more interesting stage than I expected - roll on the big one this 'avo.

Best line of the tour - I hope they don't gag Cav any further :)
