Yup - Steve plans to re-trace yesterday's route. The wind is not too strong yet, it's 9 degrees and light drizzle here.

Well, certainly a bit warmer than of late, but I've never heard 9 degrees and drizzling described as a fire hazard before

Perhaps Otto is referring to the nest of Anbaric String. But most of it seems to be low voles, so perhaps its safe.

Have a good and safe ride Steve.

A question to TGS: was that all his kit or was any of that yours?

Fire hazard

It was a bit of a worry. The AA / AAA charger with the LCD display is a maplin rapid charger, and the batteries get warm. It was needed for 3 different sets, rear lights, etrex / 2 spares, & 4 for the spot tracker.

Everything else is Lithium Ion, with all the attendant horror stories. Steve carries both the 7 port USB charger (which didn't get warm) and a separate charger for the powermonkey. The AA/AAA charger is mine.

The photo was actually taken last night. Everything was fully charged before I went to bed. And we have plenty of smoke alarms plus a foam fire extinguisher in the house. I don't like leaving batteries charging overnight.

Whe Steve came to Ye Olde Worcester he was so concerned about the rumoured power cuts here that he was towing a diesel generator behind him...

A massive vote of thanks must go to Paul D, who did a 55 mile round trip to guide Steve in. (I only asked him to do 5) There is no point having a flashing light outside our house (as H will testify), as we are not on a road as such. Nobody can ever find it. At least it is now programmed into Toothy's GPS.

Let's hope this wind benefits him today.

Good work and wishing him well for today.

Forgive the obvious - but is Steve using any disposables for his equipment? If not, why not? Getting hold of battieries is never going to be a problem. He would always have a stash at MK base. Obviously cost is an issue, but I'm sure we would all chip in a few more quid just to make that happen for him, even if it was only for a couple of items.

He had 4 AAA energiser lithiums as a backup - everything else was rechargeable.

There are two spare ports on the bolse 60 watt usb charger, I think the powermonkey, and that USE lamp are 5 volt charging
that would reduce the faffage.
What do you  think of my waterproofing mod to the bbb lamp?

Well done TGS for hosting Steve.

I rode out to the edge of the Forest on my way into work this morning and rode with Steve into Romsey, where he stopped for his second breakfast with 40 miles done.  He looked in good shape, and in good spirits too.  He's certainly enjoying this, and looked like a man treating it as a one-year holiday from work!

The BBB lamp was working well so the mod obviously works

Yes, the powermonkey would charge off the USB charger if he had enough leads. That would save him carrying one more thing.

Perhaps it would be a good thing for hosts to know what leads and batteries Steve is carrying so spares might be rounded up just in case.

The waterproofing will get its first test today. The power monkey lead is an easy win, I have a source for adapters.
