Recumbent Clothing

I was looking through my cupboard, and realised that all my longs have a pad in them, bar one.

Is this a big problem?  Will the pad be uncomfortable?  Should I go out & buy a batch of Bikesters?

Oh - and are there decent shorts available without a chammy?

Getting there...

Riding this time of year keep the chammy in because it gives
an extra layer against the cold on your wedding tackle

Haven't you worn any of them already?
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

I've tried riding with a chamois on the 'bent but I prefer no chamois myself.  Cold is not an issue for me as I ride fully faired in cold weather.

I find padded shorts ok until I start going over 200km's. After that The edge of the pad rubs a bit.
I bought some rowing shorts last summer and these are good underneath the winter tights, worn on their own though they leave nothing to the imagination  :o
I wore bikesters once and walked like I had just got off a horse for about a week, never again!
Someone did say before that Decathalon do padless shorts but I've never been in one to find out.

Only other thing to say is don't wear baggy shorts, a wasp or bee flying up your inner thigh and buzzing around your tackle at 40mph is not my idea of fun.

Rich.

I use Ron Hill lycra running shorts.

Good advice, everybody :)

I do like wearing baggy shorts normally, and I hadn't thought about the hazard you mention, Rich.

I like Ron Hill stuff - I used to wear Tracksters to ride for many years.  The only drawback was the wind on my back, but that's solved with Bikesters, and even more so by sitting down ;D

I might check out the idea of running shorts.  And perhaps rowing shorts too, but... :o

For now, though, I guess my existing kit is fine :)

The one item that does need changing is tops- as these all have back pockets!

One option is a "fisherman's vest" with lots of pockets at the front.

I find baggy shorts tend to 'inflate' when on the recumbent.

Zipped pockets are a bonus - things tend to fall out of normal pockets.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

I have a gore jacket which has a mesh back that I think is the best ever for avoiding sweaty back waterproof problem.

I wear ordinary shorts with cargo pockets and a pair on thigh hugging underpants from Next in the summer. Altura longs with zipped 'ordinary' pockets in the cooler weather and winter weight Altura longs with a useless, to me, zipped rear pocket in the cold weather like we are having at the moment.

None of these have padding and none of my options have padding, I regard one of the benefits of being totally 'bent as not having to wear those stupid padded shorts!
