RIP John or however you will.  My thoughts and condolences to your family and many friends who now have a large gap in their lives.
At the end of the day, when all's said and done, there's usually a lot more said than done.

Awful. Tragic and totally undeserved or warrented.

Does this mean the driver who ran John off the road will face further charges?

I'm not qualified to say but it seems unlikely on the face of it.

It may influence sentencing possibly.

IANAL but as i understand it the judge may take into account only the crime and not the consequences. The crime was dangerous driving, for which there is presumably an upper limit on custodial sentences. I can't imagine that it would even approach that for manslaughter.

Indeed, although the difference in maximum sentence is stark. DD is 2 years max custodial, whereas Death by DD is up to 14 years according to the CPS website

I don't think CPS can call this Death by Dangerous Driving if he survived a year from the collision, which he did, BICBW.

It was "Causing serious injury by dangerous driving". I looked this up after the verdict. As it was tried at crown court the maximum sentence is 5 years.

I've just read pizzicatooff's account of the trial - goodness knows what it must be like for the family to sit through an experience like that.
Condolences to family.

Clearly there's a range of sentences that could be handed down - although the judge has said it will be custodial. Hence me wondering if John's death will affect the severity of the sentence.

This is the cruellest outcome for a sport that we all love. How many times I encountered John’s humour on rides. We cycled at different paces, so I rarely shared the road with him; but he was a lively presence at Controls. It is so sad that many of those, with whom we share the road, do not recognise the consequences of a deliberate confrontation.

It is just ironic that within hours of John’s passing on Wednesday morning, CTC’s Roger Geffin spoke at length on BBC Breakfast Show on aspects of cycle safety.

So sorry for Johns family and all the friends he leaves behind. And such a tragedy for John who should right now be enjoying his life and his family and planning his events for next year, deciding if he wanted to ride PBP. He has been robbed of so much  :'(
Where ever you now are John, you won't be forgotten xx

Knew John only from his presence at the Easter Arrows and LEL2009, but it's so sad to hear of his untimely death. My thoughts are with his family at this time.
