but what shall I do with my 100Gb* drives then ?
* all the smaller ones died. All the others but, still small (120, 250 and 500Gb), are still working but full to the brim.

Back when I cared about telly, I had an older box with a RAID card as a sort of retirement home for old hard drives. MythTV's backend will round-robin recordings into multiple directories, which made it simple to use a heterogenous bunch of disks. When a drive failed, you'd just lose some recordings.
