Kitchen drawer runners
« on: 01 March, 2014, 04:16:51 pm »
One of the kitchen drawer needs new runners. Easy, one would think. Expect how the hell do you know which of the various options to buy? ???

The internal part looks like so:

The part that moves with the drawer looks like so and is 33.5 cm long, which seems like an odd measurement. (The old ones are bent, hence needing replacing.) That part sits in the drawer in the gap visible in the bottom right corner of the drawer seen in this picture: . The ball bearings, before their escape, where found in these bits of plastic: . Any clues as to which runners would replace the broken ones?

Universal fittings used to be in Hackney Road when I had a problem similar to yours.
I took the drawer and both halves of the runner to the store with me and was able to find something close enough to work.
It looks like they've moved to Finchley,  though that may also mean they're no longer the counter-store-with-helpful-staff they once were.
Worth giving them a call though.
Are those socks Rapha?
They're very pink - or is that magenta?
The other place to try would be Hafele though there's definitely no counter shop with them.

I ordered some kitchen cupboard door hinges from Julie's when I needed a replacement.
Excellent service; item cost buttons but I had to order 8 to get to minimum charge!

Soft close drawers do it for me.

This should be in that NSFW  thread really, shouldn't it?
The one about stuffs you shouldn't admit to.

Soft close toilet seats are magical, if a bit Harvey Denton.

I wish ours would stay up when raised! It can't, because of the bolt positioning and cistern shape.
The old seat stayed up fine.
As a result, the soft close seat is downstairs in the loo I mostly use, where David visits only under duress.

Barakta's mum's house has (?had) a toilet seat like that.  It was regularly sworn at by visiting menfolk.

I warn before they use it, or give them the choice of going upstairs

Isaac Lord is possibly the definitive source for this kind of cabinet hardware - if they don't stock it, it may be made out of cheese by Americans, but it won't be made by upstanding Teutonic manufacturers.

Woodfit used to be a good alternative, but their website currently seems broken, and I've not used them for a while so I don't know if this is related to them being bought out of administration by Burbidge a couple of Xmases ago.

Yeah, that's the thing.  They'd swear at the toilet seat, but not mention it to any of the household - who not being users of vertical toilets seats were unaware of the problem.  It eventually came to light in a "yeah, it's always done that, I thought you knew" conversation.
