Mice - WTF?
« on: 03 October, 2008, 10:42:35 am »
OK, so I've got mice at home & now mice at work (it's a regular thing ::-) )

Mouse droppings in various rooms show where they are.

But this morning, as I was parking my bike, I saw something really quite alarming.

On the floor, a mottled grey strand, with red on one end.  Er...a tail?! :o   With no mouse?  What is going on (and no, we don't have any old fashioned traps round here)?  There was a white stain around the area, so it's entirely possible that this was a not very well animal after eating the bait, but even the Rentokil guy hadn't heard of tails coming off.

With a bit of luck, he'll be in later, so I can get some sort of confirmation.

Oh dear oh dear.

Is it possible that something (cat?) stood on its tail?  A mouse can manage to pull its own tail off to escape from a trap or cat.

Cats often leave random bits.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Ours likes to leave noses and what looks like the liver.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

We get little vole faces left.  He eats the rest and leaves the big green internal organ and the face.  Not the head, just the little bewhiskered face, staring up at you

When I was younger we had a cat who did that, but face and front paws. Again, definitely the face, not the head.

Maybe the mouse spontaneously combusted?

There are mice wars going on in my office. The third and fifth floors are infested, and teams of mousehunters have been going in at the weekends to Do Something About It.

The problem seems to have lessened but the fourth floor is reporting a sudden influx of small rodents.

Was this inside?  When you said 'parking the bike' I assumed you had to tie yours to the railings like I do...

Leave my bike outside?  Are you mad! :o ;) ;D

I'm the boss - I take it up the narrow stairs & put it in the unused office. :)

Eek - more mice over the weekend, pooing & weeing over peoples desks.

I say mice, but it could well be mouse.

And we have a dead one.  Freshly so.

Fingers crossed the problem is solved.
